The weather will be warming up today in NYC, so I've opted for one of my most lightweight suits, and have dug into the archives to come up with tie, cufflinks, and shoes which I've not worn in a great while.

    Suit - BB
    Shirt - Lewin
    Tie - Hermes
Cufflinks - Venetian cased glass tesserae, bought at my local discounter for peanuts.
    PS - Robert Talbott
    Shoes - Paul Stuart (C & J)

RL recently ended the Black Label line and merged it with Purple Label. There are still a few deals floating out there. I think Barneys has some at 60% off. I have several BL Anthony suits but no Nigel or Austin fits. Austin is the slimmest I believe with severaly tapered legs? Anthony's are great fabric, great fit. Believe it or not Brooks Brothers MTM is pretty good. Have several and they are solid workhorses. I tried Proper Suit MTM once but will never do the made in China MTM thing again. Didn't turn out as well as I would have hoped.

Jacket has wings and is a little too bold perhaps?

I heard about that. Pity. Unfortunately US sales don't translate into much savings owing to shipping costs, customs duty (12%) and VAT (24%).

The Austin is just a slimmed down version of the Anthony. The fabrics are also excellent. I wouldn't say the trousers are that tapered. Incredibly, the Anthony version of my suit is available at Barney's for USD919 - which is almost twice what I paid for mine RL's winter sale.

I think all online MTM companies have the same challenges when it comes to fits. The example I posted is from Oliver Wicks, which markets its products as 'made in Europe' (translation: made in Bulgaria). Frankly, I'm suspicious of any website which posts glowing reviews of online MTM services. Arm length notwithstanding, my body type is essentially ideal when it comes to tailoring and the fit was an unmitigated disaster. The construction wasn't anything to write home about either.

I noticed the price difference as well. Got the RLBL Anthony Sharkskin direct from RL for much less than retailers like Barneys were offering. RL salesperson intimated that they were trying to dump inventory as fast as possible. I should have grabbed a Tux when I had the chance. WSJ had good article on RL consolidation due to severe profit loss.

You should wear all three more often - I especially like the Hermes tie.

Yeah, I would rock that...if I had a job and a reason to wear tailored clothes again.

    Maybe soon!

Now, back to my jeans, tee shirts and computer.

Earlier in the week I wore my oldest linen piece, a Kenzo Homme heavy linen part-lined blazer from the mid-90s with my newest, an Italian linen and cotton PS from TM Lewin.

Taking advantage of an unusually cool day to wear this Donegal tweed. It's probably overkill, but I doubt there'll be another chance before next winter.

Jacket: Steed from custom Molloy Donegal Tweed
    Shirt: Proper Cloth
    Tie: Massdrop x Panta
    Square: Put This On
    Trousers: Hemrajani
    Shoes: Carmina

Probably the last time out for this Massdrop x Panta tie. It too closely resembles a piece of string for my liking. It's a shame as the color and design are very useful.
