Quite nice, but I think the square is a bit too matchy-matchy with the jacket. Something darker, like the tie would have been better imo.

    Exactly my thoughts.

I think the problem is that light grey odd jackets work with almost nothing. Denim can work, but the cloth seems to formal for that; I think your best bet is a dark grey.

Friday, and still cool enough in the morning to warrant flannel and a lightweight topcoat, though by this afternoon, the coat will be superfluous.

    Shirt - BB
Bow tie - Thomas Farthing, London
    Braces - Paul Stuart
    Cufflinks - Harvie & Hudson
    PS - no name brand

Solid grey jacket. They're the mirage of the menswear world. You see them on the rack 'Hey, looks great .. I know grey's pretty conservative, and it's a neutral, and it's so versatile! It'll go with anything, too! Sold!' [IMG]

    CB supplies SuSu? That's impressive.

Love the suit itself. I'd like to see such an FU item with even duller furnishings, say black Oxfords + navy solid tie, but then, that wouldn't be you..

Gotcha. Thanks. My preference would be for the latter configuration also. The second suit just seems more flattering and has a lot more "presence", to my eye. I would be much more comfortable wearing the jacket with larger "V". The former pic reminds me a little of a SB with button stance set too high. That might be a bit harsh on that particular DB style, but I now know for sure that I want to avoid that particular aesthetic when I bite the bullet on my first DB.

Yeah, that's like you were in my head when I was walking in that trap :)

Tan = beige or you mean something more brownish? Either way that's an interesting suggestion, I wouldn't have thought about such combination. Will give it a try.

How about cream, depending on the fabric?

    +1

Tan, read "beige", pants play well with a light grey jacket, IMHO. Better than dark grey, especially if you're a bigger guy, though obviously blekit doesn't have that problem.

I would also add that given the medium contrast of colour between beige and light grey, pairing is improved if one aims at contrasting the textures as well.

Have you ever been part of a wrongful termination lawsuit? Every employee in the U.S. has protections against it, even at-will. If you don't have documentation showing that someone wasn't performing, or part of a synergy termination, or some other cause, then you are open to a discrimination lawsuit. It doesn't matter if you have a contract or not. The employee agreement (which often claims that you can be terminated at any time) and the reality of the law are two different things. Not everyone employee realizes this, but it doesn't make it less true.

And there's the problem with grey SC. Great in theory, but hard to match in practice.

Ah, I see. I must have misinterpreted your previous statement then. I take it that even if you are a bit over dressed compared to everyone else that it isn't by that much.

I'm trying to incorporate more spread collars over time. Today's fit is an example. Duvel, I agree about the gig line. I forgot to check it closely.
    Today's rig:
    J Press suit
    Spier and MacKay shirt
    Drakes grenadine tie
    TieBar square
    No name braces
    AE shoes

blekit, around whom this discussion started, is not in US. Most western world outside US is pretty socialist oriented, and firing someone "just because" is not easy.

One well known multinational I worked for had a round of "right sizing". People I worked with in Europe were given up to year worth of severance, while same positions in US were given maybe month, and that was considered generous. Some guys 55+ of age in Austria were considered too expensive to lay off :)

I like the spread collar. I don't like the tie.

@TheoProf I think I like you in suits better than SC/TR. Less can go wrong. I agree on the tie, there are better choices. Still thumbed though.

@Roy Al I love the blue SC, gray TR, black shoes combo.

Twinsies! I was wearing black shoes also.
