I have always thought that some Mexicans should take you as an example, some with overweight think that dressing good is not for them and they are completely wrong.

WIWY. I guess this shirt + suit combo isn't particularly SF approved, but I like it.

You will have to shoot me to get that jacket.

    Looks good.

Planning on wearing a similar 'dark shirt over light jacket' fit this weekend, I know it is not everyone's cup of tea here but you have company.

Love this pic Erik. Nicely bridging the casual - formal divide. Some good pics of Pitti too. Well done!

My SF subscriptions are overwhelming me at the moment as I have been checking in much less frequently for the last few weeks. So I apologise for not giving the thumbs to the many outfits that richly deserve the implicit praise, but I did have to give props to the above fit by @EFV. A great example of how to wear a very saturated shirt. Love it, Erik, and I really enjoyed your coverage of Pitti.

I also noted the thanks given by Murl and Big Greg, and want to echo the sentiment. I miss checking in more frequently, but needs must and all that. Thanks to all for making it such an interesting community.

I feel like this was a bit of an experiment. How'd I do?

The coat has a flapped breast pocket, which makes it a little tough to wear with more traditional stuff.

You forgot to fold your collar down....

EDIT: I'm just being a smart ass. In my opinion, the look just doesn't work.

One look I could never get behind is polo shirts and structured sport coats, even though it's long been considered a classic look.

That could work with a much less suit-y looking jacket. Maybe try a linen jacket with patch pockets and I think it would be greatly improved.

I think a polo and a structured sport coat can work but it should be clearly summery and in a material like linen ideally. I think that unstructured jackets and polo shirts are fine.

That's okay, I am too by wearing it.

    Thanks.

I've done pull quotes for graphic design stuff, so I am tempted to take this in as "a classic look."

    But seriously, thanks.
Thanks. The coat doesn't look like a suit up close: it's a big, odd pattern -- admittedly, in black-and-white without much texture, with three flap pockets, so it reads rather suit-like from a distance. Pushing it out further would probably be good.
Thanks. I'm afraid I haven't had much luck with a lot of unstructured jackets. They work well on some people, but they don't do much for me.
