Clag's thread was about taking selfies. Oh, and about Jesus, the last time I checked...
Well I was actually asking @9thsymph to explain what he was talking about. lol
Getting dressed FOR a photo.
The essence of the countryside
I see your point, but I think you could probably expand on it a bit more.
Pliny, are you too fastidious? Or too persnickety?
I could, but the thing is, as I already mentioned, I do really love all of the great photography and the excellent clothing it documents. I'm just slightly miffed by the tenor of such efforts, I suppose, because they seem so artificial, unreal...
Just my 2cents...
Yeah, I get that. I was hoping you'd go more into why you think that is a bad thing. I'm not saying I disagree with you, I just thought it would be interesting.
There's the performative vs hobbyist angle, I think. As long as this doesn't turn into a Tumblr of professional clothes-wearers, I don't think there's a problem.
I pretty much agree with this, however I have noticed a considerable decline in new posters in WAYWRN since I joined.
I guess part of it has to do with the topic @Claghorn explores in his perception of dressing thread. I want to see what people are wearing in their day-to-day lives, and it's hard to discern if that's what's going on in the photo shoot scenarios (though, it certainly could be...). But I'll also concede that I'm particularly sour on this topic because of my own troubles taking quality photos (for example, I'd love to be a more active poster, but can't get my photo shit together...). So I'm channeling a wee bit of jealously as well, perhaps...
I wouldn't mind if there was a mix of both sorts. Actually, I think it'd be great if more tumblr type folks posted here, provided they were willing to partake in discussion and criticism.
Part of the reason that I dress the way I dress is for this thread. This is where I go to share my hobby. Would I still dress as I do were I not participating in this thread? Probably. But not as much and certainly not with such zeal.
Read the selfie thread! Maybe it can help!!
I totally feel you there, lol. My photography skills have improved significantly since I started, and even in the last several months, but I can't hold a candle to some of the pro-looking shoots you see here.
A very good point.
This is certainly true of me as well. I am not going to say that I dress the way I do ONLY for this site, but it does keep me on my game and gives me an avenue to discuss and try to get better.
