    I did have a more interesting fit in mind, but it didn't work with that tie. And since I rediscovered it, I wanted to wear it. I might do the more interesting yellow tie fit tomorrow instead.

    Although I don't wear brown ties, I have nothing against seeing them year round. You can do a lot with textures and fabrics to make them fit the seasons.

    That rust one Sander is wearing is awesome and in shantung. Perfect for the season.

    Very well put, I think. We even have a plain brown shantung in our new collection, and this brown is definitely colder than the more coppery tone I have here. I still think it works really well as a subtle summer tie. In general I like warmer tones better (coppery brown, not grayish, same goes for suede shoes) but colder ones are much easier to coordinate. Warmer colors draw more attention to themselves, so it easier to "overload" an outfit with them.

    @upr_crust , I like this fit!

    Honestly, in general I think you could take more risks. I know you've been dressing this way for a while, but still...

    On the topic of neckties...since I'm still a relative noob, does anyone have a quick crash course (or know where I can find one) about what kind of ties and colors go with what seasons (i.e. Shantung is best for spring, Wool best for winter)????

    When I first posted on SF, my daring, in terms of pattern mixing, was much greater than it is now, and for my pains, I got smacked about, verbally, by some of the more knowledgeable locals (not without reason). I have since toned down (to a degree) my fits, but I will take your comment under advisement - a reason, when confronted with two choices of attire for the day, to opt for the more adventuresome one.

    I think this is done to death now. You guys disagree with him, but I think he can undimple his tie if he wants to go to church that way. There are many things people can and should pick on here, but I feel like this should be off limits.

    And this is coming from someone who is less religious than a pencil.

    I think the answer there is to figure it out instead of giving up on it.

    Your fits are all good. Your clothes fit well and you are dressed well. It's just very routine looking to me. I'm several decades younger than you are and tend to favor brighter colors in general, but the 'wow' factor of your clothes is almost always in how they fit. No simple feat, mind you, but one that's easy to nod at and scroll past.

    I'm looking forward to seeing some of your risks!

    Yeah ... it's more about fabric and construction than color although, like people have also said, a few colors do lend themselves to different climates more naturally than others. Like you won't see some heavy wool lilac or salmon tie ... etc.

    Linen ties would be a very obvious choice for warm weather.

    Heavier wool/tweed ties, winter.

    And plenty of stuff in between.

    Really, all you need to do is browse the websites of some of the better tiemakers that SF posters mention to see what they are carrying in the various seasons. A few sites will carry staples year-round but they obviously also load up with a seasonal selection.

    I agree that someone's religious practice should be off-limits, but this isn't his religious practice.

    ??? Señor Crust's accessories trend toward the flamboyant as it is. Unless you're suggesting that he wear brightly colored suits, I'm not sure what you'd have him do. And, with all due respect to him, I remember him for his use of color long before I think of fit.
