I had to blow out the photo a bit so you can see the detail on the suit.

Indochino Grey Houndstooth 3 Piece Suit
    Bourbon Allen Edmonds Strand captoes
    Bourbon Allen Edmonds Mantisse belt
    Banana Republic Shirt and Tie

    Thoughts?

I'm going to have the jacket shortened next week.

Better photos will definitely help here. As is, I think the shirt is far too casual in pattern, color and collar for a charcoal three piece suit. The jacket lapels look a little too thin for you to me and there is a lot of collar gap, but your arm around the (apparently) lovely lady to your right, your unbuttoned jacket and hand in pocket are the most likely culprits in that regard. The trousers also look like they could use some cleanup.

    Just my two cents.

Shortening the jacket is the last thing you need to do. In fact, it's about the only thing right about it to me. Tiny peak lapels make me cringe. The shirt belongs paired with jeans and sneakers, definitely not a three piece suit. Even if it was a nice solid color, button down collars and three piece suits that aren't made of tweed usually seem incongruous to me. The collar gap is astounding, although it's hard to tell if that is just because it is unbuttoned and you are standing that way. Something makes me suspect not, though. Overall a pretty tortured look. Although if it makes you feel any better you look way better than a guy in here named "the villain".

    Understandable. Thanks for the input.

Cut the woman out just because it's a forum full of people I don't know.

Collar gap is due to stance and my arm around my girlfriend pushed up against me to the left which is obviously pushing the jacket right/bunching.

Unfortunately, I don't have any other pics with the jacket on, that was the best I had.

I wish collar gap was the only problem with this fit.

Was this ^^^ not a sufficient jumping off point? I addressed several issues.

I don't think it's nearly that bad. YES, if you have another suit, i'd definitely get wider lapels, because it looks more classic, and would fit your frame better.

But overall, add a blue spread collar shirt and a white pocket square and you have a pretty good first try.

Is this a universal thing? I kind of want a midnight dinner suit with black peak lapels, but I think most of them are so wide as to look clownish on my 40L self.

I don't know what you want out of somebody's first post. His pant's aren't crazy tight, has reasonable shoes, and a three-piece suit without shirt showing between pants and vest. Besides the collar gap (which may not be a problem), and wimpy lapels it's certainly not the worst suit ever posted here.

Universal is a funny term. Is it universally unliked? No. And a thinner lapel might just be more proportionate on you. What I think gets a lot of hate from people around here, including me, is the super skinny "fashion" lapels. I can't say what would look proportional on you, but I'd rather be on the wide side, than the skinny side when it comes to peak lapels especially.

My rule remains: Come up with a joke on my name that I've not heard before, and I will buy you a beer.

Fair warning, it was approximately three years between my last two beers.
