nah - this is just too much break. Not in absolute but in relation to how narrow the leg opening is. Doesn't look good, or professional for that matter. The same amount of break with a wider leg opening would be OK and rather conservative.

My 2 cents, in real life these would be perfect,
and I have the majority of my trousers hemmed this way now. I used to have them shorter with little or no break, but it comes down to the whole static VS 3D argument. Yes no break looks good in a photo on the internet, but when your walking around it's not great. It may just be me (though I think it's not) and the fact I'm 6 foot 2, but I'm not all that keen on the pee wee herman effect when walking around town.

exactly, much appreciated. it can be so easy...

Looks fine to me. Seen in real life, and with the wearer walking around, would look different than a still photo on the internet. A lot of people don't seem to think about that.

Where the hem should break is like a man walking down the slope of Mount Fuji. The further he is from from the peak, the further he is down the slope and the further out from the center of the mountain.

Tell where I'm off the mark here:

The cuff is very narrow, and they need hemming with all that bunching. If I'm off, please let me know where I'm missing the mark. He asked for my opinion and I gave it to him.

I think long pants look much better than short. though short seem to be in style with all the rolled up pant legs, but at least they are rolled. but with the look he posted, I'd say he can go sockless on some days to make a statement.

I've always had a hard time with trouser length, opening width, and where to place the break in regard to these factors.

Thanks for not helping that at all ;)

I like the jacket but if I were your tailor I'd take an inch off the length (it says off the rack in other words,or eBay bought in this case) and the blue tie with blue in the jacket is too obvious for me. I'd pair that jacket with dark slacks and an Etro pocket square. The pants are too disheveled, they looked too worn and bunchy. I'd relegate them to weekend shopping at the supermarket, or roll up the pants a bit, and pair them with loafers and no socks, and a long sleeve shirt -- no tie-- a five o'clock shadow, and go for a casual weekend chic look, that may work.

The problem is I know a lot of tailors who won't even try taking an inch off a jacket...
