Gads no. Might as well ask if I wear my collars unbuttoned.

    Agree.

    Now you're just being shameless.

The lack of a tie will make it harder to integrate the components. But you just have to think about contrast. A navy blazer with MOP buttons might look great with a crisp, open-collared white shirt.

In general, though, I would think blue or patterned shirts would be easier to pair with coats sans tie.

Here is a little list that I would change. First off, jacket looks a little short. There's not much you can do now about that but think of it the next time you buy a jacket/suit.
    • Alter jacket so it fits properly, shoulders look bad and arms are way too skinny and twisted, it looks like some sort of cone.
    • Don't mix leathers, Black shoe? Black belt. Brown shoes? Brown belt.
    • Wristwatch is too big, get a sleeker one that fits properly under the shirts cuff.
    • Learn how to tie your tie properly.
    • Buy a proper pocketsquare.

    I'll be the guinea pig:

Hart Sh Marx SC, Zegna Tie, Brown slacks, Allen Edmonds, Arlingtons (recrafted once). WHITE SHIRT.

A hat and cane might work here, perhaps?

The tie is fine. The leathers a brown and walnut. I've always read that as long as they are in the same family it works. I agree with you about the shoulders and probably the wristwatch. Unfortunately I'm not looking to buy a wristwatch right now but that could change...

I agree the tie is fine.

I think the belt should be a lighter brown to work with those shoes.

I hate big clunky sports watches with suits. If it won't fit under your suit sleeve just don't wear it. You can always catch the time on your phone. Rock your watch with less formal fits.

My thought exactly. I actually just bought a cotton/linen mix plain white shirt to go with my blue cotton SC. :)

But usually, I try to wear tattersail, or light blue unversity stripe, or something like that.

I see what you mean re: watch, but i know of a lot of people who would feel disrespected by someone pulling out their phone while in conversation or interacting with them. (namely, my wife :p ) If I glance at my watch, crisis averted

I doubt it - she's probably just as offended if you look at your watch.! :fence:

Fair enough about the watch, I just started to think about how it looked a little to big the other day. Any suggestions for watches under $200 that will work well with most suits? Regarding the belt, I have been looking for a lighter color belt but I have other needs at the moment.

No on this one from Cravate's blog? (I think it's a white shirt anyway. If it isn't, pretend it is. I think the contrast still works.) [IMG] Here's one I posted. Naturally, I like it, though that doesn't mean you should: [IMG] There are also some good examples of tweed + white shirts on Downton Abbey. Just takes a very measured approach to color and contrast, IMO.
