Guess have to give the obligatory, "this is my first post". Only so much you can do with a smartphone camera and a bathroom mirror.

Hickey-Freeman SC (black/purple check w/blue overcheck), Navy pants, Charvet tie, Allen Edmonds, Cambridge, Shell Cordovan, recrafted once by AE.

    Hello.

BobD here, long time lurker, first time poster. I've been patiently watching and trying to learn and put into practice elements of what I see, albeit on a restricted budget.

Here's what I was wearing today. Apologies for the poor quality bbry pics

A day that I tied my first ever double four in hand.

How did I do, what should I work on here? Any pointers will be very much appreciated.

    Thankyouplease

Not too bad for a first shot. Hard to get a feel for the overall proportions and fit. Hate to say it, but try the bathroom mirror!

    Tie is bad, replace.

Are the socks too casual for the rest of this?

patrickBOOTH: I thought you were strictly a "shades of gray" man. Jacket looks great.

    EFV: Droolsome suit.

New guy #1: Ties are a matter of personal opinion, but that one is not to my liking. Welcome.

New guy #2: Looks like jacket sleeves are long, but generally looks pretty good to my eye. Welcome.

TB: If you like argyle socks, then these look great. If you don't, well, I assume you like them since you're wearing 'em!

No, I have some navy. This is the lightest blue that I have so far. Lighter than navy, darker than royal blue.

+1 I don't think argyle with a suit is ever appropriate, but with an odd jacket I think it works nicely.

Appreciate the feedback. The tie was, as sugarbutch said "a matter of personal opinion", I figured it was not terrible, not great, but it did match for colors, was not 100% on the look, and that is why I posted it here. Will go with the not great side of the argument.

. Don't really have any "solid" color ties, like a grenadine.

One other combo I wore with the same jacket:

I say switch the pants to medium gray or light gray. A brown or burgundy tie would look really nice with the SC.

welcome to the fora. sorry to be a dick, but i think those ties need to go. imo its time to get some new ones. go for solids, polka dots and simple small pattern ties, all in basic colors.

i like the colors and patterns here butch. very nice.
