He's on the fashion-side. His treatise was not going to contain any real information, it was just a way for him to stand up and show people that he and his department are the best-dressed in the tech industry.

Everytime I see your posts I think, "Damn, those shoulders look perfect." Are these all "Ercoles?" You should give more detail on the maker (I assume custom) as people should take note.

So I've got a quasi-preliminary-job interview at a department store (I'm going to meet a friend at the store, he's introducing me to his boss and we're going to dinner, if everything goes well I'll be applying in the nearish future for a job as an assistant buyer).

He told me to go for CBD with a twist, and I'm not sure whether I'm airing too conservative or too much "twist" but here's what I'm planning to wear. My comfort area is British country and sport wear and I always feel a bit off in non-tweed suits, I may just be a bit paranoid.

Also, I'm not sure if black top coats with brown shoes are kosher, so any opinions on the leather coat vs. a black london fog overcoat would be appreciated (I can't switch to black shoes, they're in desperate need of resoling).

Please note I'll not be wearing the desert boots to the interview, they're just a stand in for the ones I've got getting waterproofed and touched up at the cobblers.

Shoes (on the day of) are Allen Edmond's "Strand"

If you are more comfortable in tweed, you should probably wear the most conservative tweed suit you have. Maybe something like a simple brown or grey tweed which is still close to CBD, then add some other things from there. I'm no expert but in my opinion you should dress in what you know the most about, (in this case tweed), in order to show off your knowledge/personal style so when you apply for the assistant buyer position, the guy will remember you looked very good several weeks ago when he first met you. Its important to understand that when applying for a job in the "fashion" industry, a first impression based on how you look is very important. Since you aren't meeting the boss to ask for a job, he probably won't be judging you as someone who is looking for a position; hence why you can wear the conservative tweeds you like so much while still looking professional, and leaving a lasting opinion.

Again, I'm in no way claiming to be an expert, just trying to help.

Thanks for the comments guys. It's fun coming back. As to CDHagg - it is a fuller shirt of mine, but the wrinkles are an effect of putting my jacket on to photograph, nothing more. As for the colours being "pretty good", if mid blue and navy blue are not your thing, then I kindly ask you to move along.

And to Fred - Rock on brother! You've been killing it.

Looks fantastic! A full-body picture might reveal more, however.

Thank you! As for full body I really should use my 5D2. Tried with the Iphone but not too happy with the result... Not happy with the pose either. But then I'm no model...

For me, the biggest mistake here -- and I don't think it's been mentioned yet -- is pairing a pinstripe suit coat with jeans, especially when both are black.

For the record, I have no qualms about layering blacks.
