Grrrr! You don't like it? I think it looks okay for what it is. The seersucker came out a bit better. Memorial Day is around the corner, and you then you can tell me that the GenII seersucker Aver has "suck" in the name for a reason.

MBTâ„¢ is not an option. Nothing new can come from that source. Kaput. Finito. There were two manic waves and that was it. It is not a continuing operation.

Steed? In time, yes. I have a few things already in queue, though.

Rubinacci? I agree...a $5K cotton suit would be the bees knees. I'll check it out when they visit Boston and put my fair city on their regular itinerary. I suspect, however, that I cannot bring Vesuvius to me, and that I would have to go to Vesuvius. I will at some point.

Chan might be good for this, but then again, why not just use Steed? It's more, but not multiples more.

Believe me, I went around in circles and circles before giving cheap MTM a whirl. It turned out to be a dead end, but still, I don't mind what I got. It will do until I replace them.

I learned a lot of interesting things from the experience.

$5K cotton suit is not practical. Of all the options you considered, Chan is probably the way to go as Steed cotton will probably not work for you. As you mentioned earlier, Steed garments won't look right if made shorter. Well that, and you can get two pseudo disposable Chans for the price of one Steed.

If you love it, I don't see why not, unless it busts your budget or something.

The problem with the Chan option for me is that the ramp up costs of dialing in the fit would make the attempt at economy rather silly.

Do you think that Rubinacci will get you a perfectly fitting garment at first shot? In that case, ramp up costs of dialing the fit with Rubi will quadrupple
smile.gif

Also, it is not so much an attempt at economy as an attempt to get a different looking silhoutte than your Steed. Do you really think that Steed casual will look right? You said yourself, shorter Steed suit jackets won't work,I think shorter suit jackets make for a casual look for you.

I think that if you were measured and fitted in Naples that the chances of a great fit on the first go would be excellent. More importantly, they sound like an operation that is concerned with their customer's satisfaction.

OTH, hard finished cotton is an unforgiving fabric for alteration. So, probably not the best idea for a start with a $5K suit.

There would be a Steed casual look that I would love, but it wouldn't be in this category of things with an Ivy-ish twist to them. I have a tweed odd jacket being made up now that will give me a better handle on this. I should be getting it shortly.

In that Filangieri AAAC post that I requoted here, he notes:

"But having the chance to influence the work of the Maestro means that you have to respect his own style and artistic inclination, and you don’t have to force him and push him too far. During the fitting sessions, you have to learn to 'paint your picture' in the 'framework' of his sartorial style.

"That’s the main reason why many dedicated aficionados don’t have just one provider. Their 'polygamy' is not based on a 'playboy' approach to bespoke fashion. They understand that the Maestro that turns out those flawless flannel chalk-stripe suits might not be able to cut equally gorgeous tweed sport-coats. They understand that the pinched shoulder and large lapels that are the distinctive trademark of some Neapolitan tailors might be totally inappropriate in the case of relaxed, sweater-like fitting cashmere sport-coats.

"If they want a summer linen suit with patch pockets, double stitching and a 'light-as-a-breeze' Mediterranean look, they know who’s door they’re supposed to knock on to get their mission accomplished. There’s no such thing as a standardized, universal Neapolitan style. Every tailor, even those who where trained by the same Maestro, evolved an extremely personal interpretation of the Neapolitan cut and has every right to be proud of it."

I think there might be some truth to this overall, one that leads to a practical application of this even for those who do not have direct access to a capital of tailoring diversity.

So, your point is not lost on me.

RE: Steed casual. Something that interests me and I wish I saw more of here was bespoke casual/sportswear. Meaning non-dress, purpose-built jackets. For example: 3 button shirt jackets ala Woolrich of the 50's-60's. Hunting jackets, creative projects beyond the bounds of a 3-2 sport coat etc.
Do you commission much if anything along those lines, Vox?

Thanks. The seersucker will be out and about in a couple of weeks.
