^ Meh. It's a cotton suit, at an afternoon show about GIs in the South Pacific. Just felt more comfortable. Sometime's a cigar's just a cigar.

I didn't know they did bloody musicals at the COC. [IMG]

I like the outfit, but not the shoes; I get your reasoning, but the tie and pocket square don't work as accessories with the trainers.

    Back to School today! [IMG]
Jacket length has always been a vexing problem for me because I have preternaturally long arms in relation to my torso. A jacket that hangs at my knuckles usually looks too long over my ass, and one that just covers my ass often looks too short at my knuckles. Any and all help in this dept would be greatly appreciated.
While it's true that my ass is, to say the least, a stable point of reference, I think it's oversimplifying the situation to say that a jacket's length is correct as long as one's butt is covered. All my jackets cover my ass. What I'm trying to determine is if I should wear jackets that just barely cover my ass or if I could perhaps offset my simian arms by wearing slightly (or even significantly) longer jackets.
I really think you need to stop worrying about the relation between your jacket's length and the length of your arms. The only way in which this should come into play is if you need an L because you can't let the sleeves out enough on an R. The state of affairs you described earlier (fits fundamentally, doesn't fit manually; fits manually, is fundamentally too long -- if you pardon the punning) must apply to many people, as must its reverse (arms too short, torso too long). You can't make the jacket fit by both measures simultaneously, and I think you've already offered the right answer: if by the arms-method, the jacket is too long in the body, you have a problem. If by the bum-method, the body is short vis-a-vis your arms (but the sleeves are long enough), then that's just something you'll have to live with -- and you can rely on the fact that it's nowhere near as evident in real life as a jacket that permanently comes half-way down your thighs. That's why the bottom-method is always ultimately more reliable and makes more sense than the arms-measure. In your photo, the jacket looks unflatteringly long, and makes your legs look stumpy as a consequence. The overall look also enhances the length of your arms, because they, unlike your legs, can keep up with the length of your jacket. So, by conforming to the arms-standard, you've achieved two undesirable effects: you made your legs look disproportionately short and made your arms look even more disproportionately long than they already are. If anything, I think you should experiment with a shorter jacket, which would make your legs appear longer. Compare IST66's coat in the photos below: it's probably a little short (I also think it's a little square for its length, and would look better if it had a less strong shoulder or a more waisted cut, but that's by the by). But it emphasizes the length of his legs. To me at least, it doesn't do anything to his arms, and I think that's generally true of shorter coats provided the sleeves aren't ridiculously short: their perceived length or shortness has nothing to do with the wearer's arms, but with how the coat bisects the body.

    Great suit - maker?

    And how was South Pacific?

Bugatti. South Pacific was wonderful... highly recommended.

Busy day. The vest has light striping that is khaki colored. Please excuse the floating square (gingham) taking pictures quickly before my wife got annoyed.

Interesting to have a pocket hank with a waistcoat... haven't seen that before. Not sure I'm convinced by the result though... maybe a different color? And vest looks a little short... maybe pants (with suspenders) worn higher? The khakis and loafers look a bit out of place with the formality of the contrast-collar shirt.

I like the outfit, but not the shoes; I get your reasoning, but the tie and pocket square don't work as accessories with the trainers.

Thanks, that's a good point. Maybe a non-silk tie and square?

I am wearing right now black dress pants, a blue v-neck sweater from target, and mid-calf boots. Cute, but hardly super-fashionable.

as others have said - Lovely colour combination.

Looks good HF - still summery

I'd prefer either higher waisted trousers or a slightly longer waistcoat, but I like the idea behind the outfit and the mix of smart/casual.

    +1

I missed the shoe pic last week so I'm glad you've reposed. Very nice. I like today's fit too.

Lovely SC yfyf, and I'll trust you on the shoes [IMG]

A beautiful pairing of coat and shirt. It is the glimpse of the pocket square that astonishes the eye.

What color pants did you wear with this, or is it a corduroy suit? The combo looks good.
