Yes, the attitude needs to be there. I only have it in spurts, I'm afraid. [IMG]

And a tie would help but I just didn't have one that I thought looked right. Maybe I'll work on that today at NM Last Call and Sak's Off 5th at the outlet mall.

The look, overall, I quite like. It is casual enough, but still quite a bit dressier than just a shirt and trousers.

These were taken in early February after a fine meal in Saratoga with two of my friends (the other is not pictured).

Apologies in advance for the poor image quality and even poorer knot.[IMG]

I am on the right; to my left is Joanna.

That coat is a Burberry glen plaid with a red windowpane...the trousers were from J. Crew (I think); the sweater Lacoste; the tie is a Hickey Freeman (gold with red and yellow pindots); the shirt is a red candy stripe from Brooks.

Oh, and the watch is a Hamilton Khaki!

I like the coat, togeather with the scarf.

Were you in the movie, Metropolitan?

    Thanks for the compliment, Vaclav.

Unfortunately, I did not make it past auditions.[IMG]

    You're welcome.

But did you know, you are very near the Trad?

At times, I border on the Trad. Some things, however, are off limits. For example, you'll never see me in a sack suit.

    Tassel loafers...maybe.

Thanks! The coat is vintage, and was an absolute steal at $38 (with tailoring, about $60 total).

chorse123--It's not that heavy. Rather warm, though...kept the cold out when I was in NYC in January, on one of those terribly windy days.

Connemara, do you mind if I ask if those trousers are from J. Crew? If so, I have a pair identical to them. And had to have quite a fight with the management of my local store to get them.

Yep, bought them there in November I believe. It's a pretty nice wool trouser, considering I nabbed them on sale at about $78.

    Why the fight with management?[IMG]

I bought the trousers at $78, I think it was, and then, 10 days later, the price dropped to $30 or so. I asked to see if I could get a price reduction, and a nice young clerk agreed. But then the manager intervened, saying there is a seven-day limit on price reductions. This I can understand. Only then I noticed they had an identical pair a single size up (34).

At this point, I felt rather silly. I could return my trousers, which now seemed outrageously expensive, and buy the identical pair. But that would mean they would fit slightly less well, and I'd probably need to pay for alterations. I offered to return my trousers (still unworn, with tags) and buy them again; I even offered to buy both pairs at the lower price. But if I returned the smaller size, the manager would not, under any circumstance, let me have them back.

Now, I can certainly understand the price-reduction policy. It would be unfair to buy something at full price, hold it for three months, then ask for the lower price. But we're talking a difference of three days and a single size. It's not like that all that was left was a pair of 52s. Ultimately, I returned the properly sized trousers and bought the slightly larger ones. It was a significant hassle for all involved.

The whole affair just struck me as deliberately poor service. I don't claim to be in the right on this one, but I can't say I have much desire to go back.

If the tags are on and they refuse, the manager's just being a prick because he or she enjoys it. Go to a different store and you'll likely have better luck.

You could probably write a letter to Mickey Drexler or someone like that.

Very nice, Connemara. I really like it a lot.
