Got some Merrell Refuges today. Great comfort and fit. Got Leki quick lock polls. Plan on a hike in two weeks.

I have had the Merrell Sawtooth for several years now and I've been quite happy with them. They make a quality hiking boot. Enjoy.

Also made me think about getting a first aid kit, even just for under ten mile round trips. I figure an injury will be just like the #1 rule in moose hunting (the moose always drops at least a mile from the canoe/boat).

yeah, you might at least want some bandaids/antibiotic (helpful for blisters, not just scratches), and if you are going to be bringing bottles of wine and slicing up cheese to be eating on crackers you might want a lil bottle of hand sanitizer.

Good thinking. We've got various odds and ends like that for our golf bags which we'll be using. Going to order this tonight for Mrs. Piob: http://www.rei.com/product/782319 A place for her to carry a few things and water and then this for me: http://www.rei.com/product/796222 Changed backpacks. First one was for a smaller person. Got the large in this.

TM, those were great pics. Other folks post pics of your trekking trips. I plan to do our first trail on October 17th. About a six-seven mile loop, started at 2800 ft and climbs to about 4k. I'll be sure to take and post pics.

Anyone have a link to a sunscreen/tarp type product? Something I can maybe use our trekking poles to set up. Just something to take the sun off our heads while we eat lunch.

Poles are critical. I was able to do 36 km in one day on the West Coast Trail thanks to my poles.

Heres how it was done in the 1950's. Not a lot of backpacking (some) so if you wanted to get far away from civilisation you packed your stuff in by mule or horse.

This is the Sierras. My dad is probably taking the picture.
