He didn't specify that level of paint job quality, but simply that brand of paint, which is completely different. If someone wants the same material as a Tom Ford suit, that doesn't mean they're making a suit just as good. I've seen people take quality paint to Maaco (which I advise, actually).

The only cost-effective, sensible color change in the world is this: sell your car and buy one in a color you like. A quality color change is one where you can't tell what the original color was, which means disassembling the car, which is expensive.

Agreed. If you want to do a high quality paint job and love the result, go for it, but keep in mind that it takes a HUGE hit on your resale value (and the nicer the car, the bigger the hit)

Not sure where you guys are getting your figures from. For a high-end paintjob there really is no limit to how much you can spend. To bring a car to bare metal and back with quality materials will be $10k+, most show cars these days have a minimum of $25k alone in body and paint. My painter won't touch a job for less than $20k. For 3-5k I wouldnt expect much.
