Lately, it has become obvious that many members of Style Forum are seeking beautiful women. Who knows - maybe that is why many members care so much about their own style. If this reflects any large segment of society, it's an important subject that deserves to be explored. The question here is, Why the insistence on beauty? For example - yes, this a serious question - does it make the sex more enjoyable?

consultant, I always enjoy the questions/observations you raise/make.

I must say, though, that the search for beautiful women is not a new phenomenon, at least since the time that I've joined. I've always believed that the reason behind dressing well, when one gets past the arguments of quality/longevity..etc, are that we strive to "outdo" the next person. Some people prefer to do so using faster cars, some "better looking trophy" companions, and some clothes.

As far as the assumption that beautiful women equate better sex, I'll only agree that it's a more pleasurable experience with an attractive woman. Is the highly decorated, well-presented dish of food better tasting than a dish of homemade pasta? Not necessarily.

IME, beauty is not indicative of sexual prowess. Some of the best sex I've had were with women who were not among the most beautiful who I've slept with.

For the most part, people enjoy beauty for beauty's sake. Society also creates some pressure to get the most beautiful mate possible, all things being equal. Lastly, having a beautiful mate provides a sort of self-validation of sexual or economic powers.

To put it simply, you'll be across the table for many meals, talking to and looking at this person. All other things being equal, most would go for the best-looking option.

Where things get interesting is the trade-offs between unequal distribution of brains, personality, ambition, etc. Then it's up to each of us to figure our optimal mix.

Excepting, of course, those in velvet blazers.

Allow me to cite the philosophical concept of "higher good" here:

Beauty > Ugliness

Nothing new about that.

Seriously. How long do you need before you figure out that most of the members of an almost exclusively male, largely straight internet forum are seeking beautiful women? The level of implication almost reaches "tautology".

See, *there's* the interesting question.

If appearance were unimportant, what would imageconsultants do?

For me, every reasonably attractive girl I see inspires some form of desire. Therefore, if I have a more attractive girlfriend, the majority of girls I see every day will be less attractive in comparison, thereby making me feel more powerful.

I have no idea what this means, but if it works for you more power to you.

If he has a hot girlfriend, he'll be less likely to cheat on her because he already has a hot girl. I do not share the same philosophy. You will never run out of more beautiful women than the one you currently are with.. regardless of how beautiful she is. As someone previously stated, the ratio of beauty to intelligence, attitude, ambition, sexual prowess (this is like.. number 2, at the least), etc.. is what in my mind makes me feel more powerful. Not only that, but what her options were.. and why she chose me.. Who the hell wants someone that's hot but is dumb as a brick and a dead fish in the sack? Not I.

See, therein lies the difference : the mate and the meaningless bone.

Unless they're a millionaire; in which case, I can probably work through my tormented existence with Edward Greens and bespoke suits.

Once again, Ms. Simpson provides the perfect question. Can you deal with the apparent lack of intellect, and ...the in-laws? Her sister and father, to name only a few. I doubt my own villa in Tuscany, complete with personal tailor, would do the trick.
