High arm holes - can you go back?

Now that I am used to wearing my suit with high armholes, I feel "unsecure" when I am wearing my OTR jackets. I can't bring myself to buy OTR again. Note I haven't tried Kiton or the other high priced OTR Italians but I can't imagine that they can make something that fits my arms so well.

What about the rest of you? Have you gone back to OTR once you are used to custom armholes?

Armholes were Chanel's pet peeve. She could never get them the way she wanted them, on her suits. This, even after dozens of fittings. That having been said, a custom suit certainly should remove the guesswork from problem areas, like armholes. I love how my MTM jackets fit, too. I am able to cope, however, with rtw armholes, as well.

Actually I've seen more RTW makers have higher armholes as of late. Even Express has done better lately (when it isn't their stupid washable wool separates).

EDIT: In general I think it'd be hard to go back to OTR if I had a few suits bespoke.

Curiously, I was pondering this matter only today, not so much in relation to bespoke, but to the better italian suit makers. I put on a jacket over a sweater (it's cold), which is admittedly not an optimal arrangement for freedom of movement anyway. But I had to take the jacket off, and couldn't help but think that if the armholes were higher, the combination probably would have worked.

And yet armholes and their effect on fit was not something that it had ever occurred to me to even think about until recently.

The low armholes don't bother me as much as larger wrists sleeves. Wide end sleeves have to go

Can someone explain the virtue of higher armholes? Does this allow for further arm mobility or is it purely a case of function versus aesthetics?

With higher armholes, the jacket won't ride up when you raise your arms.

I have a few suits that are four to five years old, that are older H-F (1 boardroom and 1 canterbury) that have just a slightly extended shoulder. They were fine until I acquired two made-to-measure Samuelsohn's and one OTR Samuelsohn. The more supressed waist and higher armhole have a more sleek fashionable appearence.

Now I wear the more fitted suits for everyday business, and save the older stock for rainy days or schlepping.

they look nicer indeed

But when is hot out there, or you are doing some physical activity like dancing etc... the higher armholes will get much more transpiration than the standard ones...

Yes, but it's flat out impossible to dance without them. Just make sure you wear an undershirt so that you don't sweat through to the jacket. It's something I've been very happy with of late. If my borrellis didn't have high armholes, I wouldn't be able to wear them out salsa dancing.

To answer the original poster, no I could never in a million years go back. It's always the first thing i check when I try on a jacket.
