so, gents, how would you rate the numerous british shoemakers in terms of quality and value for money?
1. john lobb?
2. edward green?
3. C&J handgrade?
4. grenson masterpieces?

The top three makes of English RTW shoes are Lobb Prestige, EG Top Drawer, and G&G. They are about equal in quality, but I would give the edge to G&G. G&G is also significantly cheaper.

But you have to like the styling and the limited selection of lasts.

As an owner of all three of the above, here are my $.02.

EG makes the most classic and elegant of the bunch and TD finishing has really improved. G&G are a bit overstylized for my taste but the leathers and the finishing of the waist are top notch. Lobb Prestige, when done well like with Jermyn II, Vale, Chapel etc. is probably my favorite, though. They combine the workmanship of the others with a flair for design that is ahead of the others. The problem is that Lobb misses much more often then they hit.

And for an extra $.01, Vass U and F lasts best the other three.
