Those look really nice. But I doubt I could fit my paddle feet in those sleek toe boxes. (Plus I couldn't afford them to begin with

You know nothing, and understand nothing.

Unless you're merely auditioning for my old job, in which case you're welcome to it.

I thought Portnoy was Manton's bum boy.

Yes, but I'm the sycophant, cat-man. Or was. Manton fired me. Keep up!

Grimslade would it please you if I became your bum boy

I appreciate your posts, thats why I liked Manton's jab at you

Per Manton, I too must be an idiot since I am completely dodging G&G's round toe and EG's 82 last (both designed by Tony Gaziano)

Personally I prefer the more soft squared or squared G&G lasts (and the EG 888)

Grimslade, why haven't you gone the G&G route yet?

On a side note, I just love it when Manton sticks it to people in an indirect way (this happens often)

But I really love it when its direct per Tomasso or Fritzl, or anyone else who steps out of line

I have gone the G&G route. That's just one of the things that was lost in translation back there.

And, while I appreciate your offer, I'm actually not in the market for bum boys. But thanks all the same, Michael.

Thanks for the response

I prefer Ay329, you just make me feel more special when you refer to me as such

Do you have any plans for G&G bespoke now that they will soon be in town at Leffot?
Or is MTO/RTW more appropriate for your tastes and or budget Grimslade?

Personally, I like Edward Green the most. They have the history and tradition of fine English shoe making. They have the styles, leathers, and lasts to cover the gamut. Their leathers and finishes are superb. They have twice yearly sales that give every man the opportunity to experience the sublime.

I cannot see how one could go wrong with Edward Green. Yes, John Lobb makes fabulous shoes and so does Gaziano and Girling. Edward Greeen makes their shoes available through distribution channels open to me and gives me the opportunity to buy them - sometimes at a discount during their semi-annual sales. Do JL or G&G do that?

I have found the Edward Green gives me the opportunity to own fine, Goodyear welted, closed channel, exquisite finish, English shoes with the finest of leathers and finish, occasionally at a discount. I have also found that the Jermyn street store has a "total customer service" orientation. This is in contrast to other shoe makers who strive to demonstrate their elite status.

I love Edward Green and whole heartedly recommend them to anyone who wants to own fine English shoes without going through the pain and agony and the supercilious bravado.

While I love my Lobbs, EGs, and C&Js, I have the most affection among RTW English brands for Grenson Masterpieces.

The silhouette is so fine, and the soft round toe is so English in a refined way. They are like delicate little slippers of shoes. They have so little pretense, and are satisfying in a visceral way.

I too have a soft spot for the Grensons. Not to go all moony here, but there's something appealing about the way the company straddles the spectrum from entry-level welted shoes to finely finished high-end footwear. I'm glad there's still a market for their nicer work.

Designwise, Grenson puts out some crazy stuff, but it's usually quirky, rather than flashy, a la modern Lobb. And their classic styles are marvelous.

My very favorite English shoes are EGs, but Grenson isn't far behind.

I'm pretty happy with Crockett & Jones. I love the sleek Gomez lasts, and conservative lasts like the 330 and 341 as well.

I recently purchased a pair of G&G from their 'summer sale'. Limited selection, much like the EG sales, but they had the Hayes on the MH71 in my size. Came to about $750. Beautiful shoes.

I talked to Steven about the Leffot show, but in the end I decided to stay away, prudence being the better part of valour.

Such a *****. You troll and troll and troll and the minute anyone lays a finger on you in response, the tears come in a gusher.
