i've been debating with myself on this for quite a while. I'm a shorter guy at around 5'8" and was wondering if hi-tops or low-tops would make the leg appear longer.

at first I was like, lowtops. with lowtops the jeans hit the shoes at a lower point making the leg appear longer and the jeans to run further. but then I was like hi-tops. hi tops usually fit under the jeans and make the jeans continue all the way through the shoe. thoughts?

one could just use chuck taylors as an example. I wear pretty slim jeans so it is noticeable (whether they are hi/low).

I think this only makes a differenence with shorts. you should avoid hi-tops with shorts to be sure.

Yep, it really has nothing to do with your height- low tops if you want to wear them with shorts as well, or whichever you prefer for just trousers.

fair enough. what if say, instead of shoes, boots. higher boots that may allow the jeans to be tucked in. is this look harder to pull off (well) for those <6 feet tall?

It doesn't really have to do with height, tucked-in jeans are just hard to do in general. Honestly I don't see it working unless you're actually a cowboy or have some really badass Luccheses or somesuch.

Arrg!!! will you 5'8" people stop acting like you're dwarves!! About two generations ago (your parents or grandparents) this was the average height in the US and is still the average height in many countries. Unless you're very wide or have particularly short legs you don't need to watch out about anything in particular. I'm 5'8" and, being slim enough, I certainly don't have to ask myself those mind of question, maybe you're giving this too much thought.

I'm 6'3" and I think hi-tops make my legs look shorter...but who cares? hi-tops rule-even better if you're short and skinny. rock and roll!

It depends what type of shorts you're wearing. You can easily wear hi-tops with a basketball short.

    Jee

p.s. yes, people are going to jump on it and say, "But that's so ghetto", or "that's so gangsta".
    p.p.s. Who cares?

Er, hate to rain on your self-righteous parade here, bro, but the discussion was about skinny jeans and hightops like Chucks, or maybe Sk8-Highs, not about Jordans or AF1s. And imo, unless you are wearing a huge, oversized jersey and a phat cap, you don't look gangsta or ghetto or whatever wearing Basketball shirts and hightops. You look like a fratboy shooting some hoops, probably going to change into flipflops after some pickup.

Personally, I think that if you wear reasonably fitted clothes and clothes with a vertical silhouette (like Hedi Slimane's silhouette, full of vertical lines), whether you wear low of high tops will make a negligible effect.
