Here is the Hermes reply. Actually passed through a bunch of duty free stores and enjoyed the hermes cosntruction over the others. They employ a 4 fold type of folding and the stitching is done nicely and properly and despite the lining ingredients the ties bounced back nicely to crunching up. I highly doubt that any of the designers use silk on the tie lining (Fodera) but rather an artificial fabric with their logo. As my Boss said, had anyone done what I was doing to the ties in any of our stores we would have been excercising restraint by just throwing them out [IMG] JJF >>>Bonjour, I am so sorry for all the misinformation you have been given. You are completely right. The exclusive Hermes interlining, which gives the ties their shape an hang, is a mixture of cotton and wool. I apologize for the inconvenience of the previous misinformation. Its quite impossible that the ties are lined with silk as only seven fold ties are lined with silk and the hermes ties are not seven fold ties. Indeed if you touch a Hermes tie you feel a distinct lining under the silk. Please check with the company and get back to me what exactly does Hermes use for the LINING of their ties. The sooner the better. Thanks again for all your help. JJF

How does one go to a bunch of duty free stores? Most airports only have one large store encompassing the various brands such as Fendi, Hermes, Bulgari, etc. However Shanghai's airport has several small ones for the various brands.

a lot of the larger traffic airports have an actual separate hermes store, such as heathrow terminal 4, whereas the smaller traffic airports have the congregation of boutiques in one store

i can go from geneva's small closet hermes boutique in that airport and then connect at heathrow terminal 4 and hit 2 separate hermes duty free store in one trip, for example

fihties:  thanks for finding out what the hermes tie "interlining" is called - as such, it sometimes does come down to tenacity in finding out but also usage of the terms lining and interlining

as such, everything on the outside is silk and there's cotton and wool on the inside

Went From Bari, Italy to Rome's Fumicino Airport, Transfered to Charles deGAul, for a flight home to JFK. Was a Long Day yesterday. [IMG] But in truth CDG had a bunch of different stores in a long row as did Fumicino, and in fact had a separate Hermes store and even in the other stores were selling Hermes merchandise. The Hermes store in CDG has a pretty decent selection--better than most full blown retail stores here in the US. Cute girl at the counter, too.
