Herman Cain strikes blow for style; Obama for slobbery

Herman Cain's victory in the Florida straw poll yesterday advanced the cause of style in men's dress. He is probably the only major presidential candidate since Harry Truman to regularly wear double-breasted suits that fit him decently (the coat, anyway).

Somehow, it doesn't surprise me that neither nytimes.com nor washingtonpost.com could be bothered to make Cain's win the lead story on their politics pages. U. S. journalists adore only a front-runner.

Meanwhile, at the Congressional Black Caucus's Phoenix Awards last night, our esteemed President advanced the cause of slobwear by wearing a dinner suit with a four-in-hand tie.

Last year, he attended the awards wearing a black bow tie with his tux.

Did anyone notice how bad Govenor Perry's suit was in that debate?

In what universe is Cain a "major presidential candidate?"

When he was Senator he went for HSM due to the Chicago connection. I don't know if he's upgraded since.

I'm not sure if the thread is supposed to be sarcastic, but Obama is actually 10x better than that other bafoon. His DB suit is terrible, and I really like DB suits.

I have read that Obama wears Hart Schaffner Marx. since they were/are made in chicago.

From wikipedia

"The label enjoyed considerable publicity during the 2008 Presidential Campaign when then Senator Barack Obama wore the brand extensively, including suits tailored especially for his acceptance speech and the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Address. Obama expressed a personal affinity for the brand, which is based in his hometown of Chicago."

Also an article on Forbes.com about it. http://www.forbes.com/2008/08/26/obama-suit-denver-forbeslife-cx_jp_0826obamasuit.html

Obama is terrible, rubber soled shoes, poor tailoring, ridiculous choices with black tie, etc.

But Herman Cain's DB jacket's sleeves are too long. Don't know about the rest of his outfit because I don't pay attention to him because there is no way on the planet he could possibly win anything. Also, his pizza sucks.

Hasn't this been discussed before? No major politician can look like he is a dandy aspirant or something lest old ma and pa from some backwater town accuse him of snobbery and being out of touch with the people.

the only thing Herman Cain bested anyone in is lapel size. Did he purchase that suit in 1977?

I don't know - look at his pants in that picture. Pretty nice break, if you ask me. Look how long the pants are on the two slobs in the first picture.
