I work in a job you can wear a suit, so I do. No tie these days but that's so conformist I'm thinking of the disreputable hospital consultant look of navy pinstripe and loud tie with top button undone - as a **** you (I never used to do my top button up anyway).

I remember my father often did what you described (he wasn’t a hospital consultant though). I recently wore a tie for a wedding, first time for years.

I like the double stitching on the collar, the Soffe brand shirts I like have that on their military t's. Seems to keep the collar from getting distorted.
TBH I am pleasantly surprised with the quality as I bought it online without seeing it before (was cheap at half price, €17). Cotton has a very nice feel, and is quite thick but breathable. just a little bit oversized, but good for a summer look.
I also like the purple colour. I had a plain FP polo in the same colour in the 80s. Funnily @cerneabbas found the same on EBay recently - but I don’t think it was his size.
