Yes it’s the right fit (not too wide) and the right rise.
Can’t be seen on the picture, but the cotton material is substantial and very good.

I only have one pair of heavy chinos. Won't wear them again late Fall as it's linen weather now!

Now if you are looking for good quality Chinos or military repros, i suppose @Botolph, @Gerry Nelson, @smittycl among others will have some ideas?

I did have a few pairs of GAP and most work ones are now CT.
Wearing some today which are fairly lightweight M&S. Nothing special but they are almost 20 yrs old and I was pleased I could fit into them.

I’ve picked up a couple pair of Engineered Garments and EG Workaday chinos over the years, as well as a pair from Buzz Rickson’s which are particularly robust and loose fitting in an old-school manner.

Also, I always loved the J. Crew regular fit broken in chinos, though I’ve heard the sizing has become very, erm, “petite”.

Recently, I nabbed some EG Workaday “Fatigue Pants”, one pair on olive ripstop cotton and one in navy blue linen. Cuffing the hems to 1” gives them a little bit of refinement. Not “business casual” or “smart casual” by any stretch, but a finished look nonetheless.

yeah they ARE exorbitantly-priced for sure, but they last forever. I have an olive reverse sateen Workaday utility jacket that I bought when they launched them, 10+(?) years ago, and wear it when grilling, cooking, yard work, etc., and it has easily withstood all the abuse I’ve thrown its way.

Did you try that Uniqlo « Vintage »? Got my first one for a year, and still like new after several washes.

i also prefer to buy less but quality, but I find the prices of EG or Buzz Chinos a bit crazy TBH, even if I agree they are very good.
Anyway they are not available here I think, and I don’t like to buy expensive stuff online without trying it.

Yes, Outlier.nyc makes great, if usually trim-fit, chinos(sort of a mid-rise, too). They’re a very small producer so prices are a bit up there. Their wool blend t-shirts are amazing, too. Most of their stuff is made with a wool blend or just straight-up technical fabrics, the latter of which I know turns many people here off from them. However, their “60/30 chinos” look like cotton but have 4-way stretch—- which makes them ideal for me as I travel for work and they are as comfortable as sweatpants while looking like 100% cotton chinos.
