@Kingstonian , I thought you were meaning Marlowe rather than Maigret, but of course the 'pipe shadow' points directly to the latter.
Though I'm not sure that Chandler or Simenon had me in mind when they wrote ...

Well I thought Holmes, played by Jeremy Brett. He had hats like that and smoked the pipe too sometimes IIRC.

Yes he is great.
But to me the better Holmes ever (alas only in one movie) was Peter Cushing in The hound of the Baskervilles.
I loved the Brett series I saw all the episodes of course.

He was a sensibile person too.
We know that Holmes was a cocaine addict, but Brett menaced to quit with the character if producers didn't stop showing him taking drugs, as he thought this was a bad example.

Edit : IIRC Conan Doyle never mentioned that Holmes wore a deerstalker. I think it's the actor Basil Rathbone who first wore one when he played the role.

Friday Challenge 3/5/21: Spring Coats

I was prompted to start this week's challenge a bit earlier to give everyone more opportunities to post their outfits. My other top choice was corduroy, but my garment is stuck at the tailor and won't make it in time for the challenge. Preferably lighter coats as we are moving towards Spring...
