I'm curious about these trousers, or any good (or better) substitutes. Does anyone here have experience with hemp pants, these or similar? Thanks much. Here's the link: http://www.orvis.com/store....hop_id=

Patagonia might have something you'd like.

I bought a pair of Patagonia hemp jeans a couple months ago, and I can't stop wearing them. They are very comfortable. To tell you the truth, I wear them so much on weekends that, in two months, they haven't even been washed yet so I don't know how the washer/dryer affects the fabric and fit.

My sense is that the fabric on the Patagonia ones isn't as tough as, say, Levis 501s -- it certainly seems lighter and a little thinner. If anything though, that just makes them more comfortable....

I have a pair of the Orvis. Very soft and comfortable. Cuffs sort of shrivel a bit after a trip through the dryer, but fair value, and good to have in the summer. Breathes well in spite of high apparent weight. One of these days, I'll try to track down some of this fabric and mail it to Chan.

I've always been leery of hemp clothing. Isn't the urge to smoke them almost too much to resist?

Only if you're at the end of your (can't resist)...rope.

No, because you get a free eighth with every pair. It should be in the back left pocket.

The Orvis website says these are dryclean only, which may explain that. I would think that Hemp being a bajillion times stronger than cotton could stand up to the rigors of the washer and dryer though, am I crazy?

Hemp should be fairly similar to flax or linen. Tough fabric, but I think it can also shrink.

If you put them in the dryer, do you hang around to sniff the exhaust ? [IMG]

Yes, but you have to put the setting on "high." [IMG]

Question: how come hemp trousers are legal, but Woody Harrelson once got arrested for planting hemp seeds?

It's the ol' "plants vs. pants" hypocrisy.
