Guys I just received a invitation to a Town social Awards Gala. The invite stated "Cocktail Attire" What does that mean? Dark suit and Tie?

I'll let more socially embedded members provide a more definitive opinion, but I would probably wear a darker, slightly less conservative suit if you have a continuum with a tie.

3 button jet black CK collection suit with blue/black striped shirt and solid black tie work?

I know some forum members don't love black suits, but this sounds like a good place to wear one to me.

i thought this was the obligatory SF sarcastic remark until i saw you were responding to your own question and offering this as a legitimate example. in short, the answer is no.

That sounds suspiciously like a 'clubbing' shirt. I would at least replace that with something like a plain white shirt, simplicity and elegance is the key...

black suit, black tie, white shirt looks like you're serving drinks at a cocktail party.

if a dark suit, go for something other then a dark shirt, but i'm thinking maybe a light pink.

In what clothes do you think that you look your best and most socially comfortable?

White shirt, with a dark tie that is not black.

typically a suit and a more playful piece of neckwear. if you've got the stones, here's your chance to attempt a cravat or perhaps the Vineyard Vines tie printed with Martini glasses, well maybe not. seriously, this would be the occasion for the your more playful or vibrant shirts and ties.
