Help understand a finishing tool/process in video linked

It's an electric "iron" and it's main purpose is to smooth-out the upper leather while the shoes are still on the last.

In the shoes shown, there is (presumably) another purpose. The warmth will help to open the pores and drive the staining deeper into the leather.

The later part is what I was wondering about. So one could be used when restraining a pair a shoes multiple colors and it would help fade out the darker colors into the lighter/base colors? Would that seem like a logical use? I want to remove color from a dark maybe even black shoe and try doing a purple with black/dark toe, heel, and other highlighted areas and do the same with a black shoe to a red or navy with highlighted/patina.

I have no experience in leather work but am an artist by trade second to engineerings. But not scared to invest in some tools, dyes, etc... And some cheaper or used black shoes to give it a try.

And any other info would be great or even a link to a thread or video in English where this type of hand painting/dying is explained in more detail would be greatly appreciated. I assume many layers of wax after all the colored waxes will be needing to prevent bleeding, or no, if will work itself into the shoe and dry?

Any info on how I can test this process. Like good dyes with multiple colors and waxes to match the colors?
