I unfortunately got some rust staining on the sleeve of my favourite striped linen shirt. I have soaked it in detergent and warm water for 48 hours, but the stain hasn't lifted. Has anybody any suggestions on how to remove an orange rust stain on a blue and white shirt? I have tried a search here, but there is no mention of rust stains.

If it is really rust stain, you can try "Bar Keepers Friend", it has oxalic acid inside, it can remove rust. Bar Keepers Friend is also a very good household cleaner.
But use it on your own risk.

The best rust remover is hydrofluoric acid. Use with q-tip and immerse in cold water immediately afterwards. You should be able to use this in a home environment on machine washable cottons and linens without a problem.

I'm not sure where you buy this product as it is a specialized product your'e more likely to find in a dry cleaner.

Alternatively, take it to an above average dry cleaner. Any dry cleaner who charges "decent" prices (let's say $15+ for a man's 2 piece suit) should be able to handle your problem with ease.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Fishball, do you know where I can get 'Bar Keepers Friend' in Hong Kong? I will be down next week.

Whink Rust Stain Remover did the trick for me. Lifted a set rust spot on a white shirt and quickly I might add. Definitely worth a shot.
