HELP! RL Benton (C&J Belgrave) Instep Fit Problem

I need your help about something.

I bought RL Benton shoes (equivalent of C&J Belgrave) on ebay in size US 10D. I thought that the shoes would fit perfectly because Benton is on 337 last and I also own another pair of RL shoes, namely Redding, which is on the same last.

So I thought that due to the same retailer (RL), same manufacturer (C&J), same last (337), size (US 10) and fitting (D), I thought that the shoes would fit perfectly to me.

So my pair of RL Benton arrived. The thing is that they are quite snug. I don't remember exactly whether Redding boots were as snug as the Benton, but I believe I can overcome this problem after a couple of wearings.

My main concern is about something different. Since RL Redding shoes are in fact chelsea boots without laces, I did not encounter any problem with instep level of my feet. When buying the Benton, I completely overlooked this instep factor and did not contemplate that the Benton shoes, which is an oxford (balmoral) with laces, may not fit properly in the instep area.

So what I am asking is that could you please take a look at the attached photos of the shoes while on my feet and tell me whether these shoes properly fit to my feet or not? The cobbler in Sky Valet in DC once told me that the two sides of the laces need to come together in order to say whether shoes fit properly or not. He had stated that, there can be a little gap between them when worn at the first time (in fact this would be preferable), as upon a couple of wearings, they will come together. He said that if they already come together when you first wear them, then they may overlap after a couple of wearings.

In light of these, what would you recommend to me? Is there any hope with these shoes? Or shall I sell them or something because it is definite to your eyes that these shoes do not fit well?

Thanks!

PS. I am also attaching a photo I found on SF of the same shoes while worn. You will see in that photo that the shoe laces perfectly come together.

Are they comfortable? The laces won't come together for everyone due to the differences in instep. They can still work. However, I hate the way shoes look when they are straight laced & the two sides don't come together. If they are comfortable, try cross lacing them.

They are not "that" comfortable but they may become after a couple of wearings. Not sure though.

I completely agree with you. I simply hate that. I can try cross lacing to exacerbate the problem but I don't find cross lacing suitable for balmoral shoes. Especially for a perforated captoe like this one.
