help on my beach menu?

I want to make a small party for my friends with beach food.They will be very surprised for something authentic.

What is typical for a California beach party?

I am thinking :

1.) hamburgers and milkshakes

2.) chicken on the fire

but got stuck there. Do you have any simple idea that I can add?

i take it you are giving this party somewhere NOT actualy on the beach.

don't know about you but where i live salads are way to go.

you could try making some with chicken or other white meat.

avoid alcoholic drinks.

Though not California, this would be great on the beach.

Veal burgers with foie gras, brie and bacon.

Lobster tails barbequed with butter, garlic and rosemary.

Cold dressed crab with mayonaise and brown bread.

Roasted Seabass with thyme, lemon, olive oil and garlic - you can do this easily in a barbeque, just wrap everything in foil and cook it in the barbeque, just go slow on the lemon.

Sardines with chopped shallots, red peppers, goose fat, and garlic.

I hate chicken, but some chicken skewers with a tandoori marinade would be good if chicken is your thing.

For pudding mango and cold stickey rice.

To drink, any of:

1. Gin and tonic
2. Puligny Montrachet or Chablis (white wines)
3. Beaujolais or Macon (red wines - serve lightly chilled)
4. Peroni or Hoegarten (beer)

Burgers, grilled chicken, perhaps hot dogs, that's pretty typical. Beer, white wine, etc. Milkshakes sound good but I'm not sure they're typically found at a beach party.

Bouji's suggestions sound delicious but hardly typical.

Corn on the cob.
smores
coleslaw and potato salad
ice cream sandwiches or some other sort of ice cream or frozen dessert commonly sold in individually-wrapped packages (i.e., that could easily be carted to the beach in a cooler, or which might be sold by a vendor at the beach)

but we can be dreaming with Endless Summer on the DVD.

Assuming it's warm out (not a stretch given recent weather) pudding would work - especially a good cold rice pudding.

Drink wise, what about mojitos? If you're grilling, kebobs are always fun and tasty.

Spencer, I want this to be a classic American beach party but it will be inside with the air condition unit on high..so I won't worry about the heat.

Are mojitos and kebobs typical American? I want it to feel like the movie "Back to the Beach" even if its in my apartment.
