help on dress shoe sizing

I'm hoping to get some advice on how to fit my feet, since it seems I have to compromise somehow whenever I try things on.

My left foot is a half size longer than the right and narrow, while my right foot is more medium width. If I fit the length and width of the smaller foot, the left shoe is too loose. If I fit the width of the left foot, the right foot is too snug, sometimes to the point of being painful after walking around for awhile.

Does anybody have any recommendations on inserts, or some sneaky technique that could get me a better fit? Thanks for the help!

You might be able to get insoles that would help, but I would talk to a good cobbler and ask for advice on what he could do since you have both a length and width problem.
