Good evening gentlemen. Looking for some advice on the problem you see in the photos. I ordered some flannel trousers from proper cloth with a higher rise. They fit perfectly everywhere but they seem to have this extra baggage and weird scrunching near my behind. Can someone please explain why this occurs and if a tailor could fix it?

It looks like you have them pulled up too far. Also, they are too tight in the thigh to get a proper drape. Ideally, from the side view, you want a nearly straight line from the widest point at your hips all the way to the hem.

The thigh area feels very roomy, with plenty of room to tug material in any direction. So it may be that I have them pulled up too high. Would you recommend just loosing my suspenders then?

Looks too tight to me, particularly at the front. Like the front of the thighs are pulling all the fabric it can from the seat and back of thighs.

They might feel roomy to you because you’re used to wearing slimmer trousers, but the side view is very helpful because it shows that the trousers are indeed too tight in the upper thighs. Agree with @paxonus . If you want a high waisted style with suspenders, the trousers need enough room for the fabric to hang cleanly from your rear down to the hem, not bunch around your thighs. The way these trousers fit, the suspenders are probably purely cosmetic and serve no real purpose because the trousers are not hanging from them.

This may just because the trousers are pulled up too much but you may need more curve in the lower part of your seat so that you don’t have a wedgie.

Could you possibly provide images of how a pair of trousers is meant to properly drape from the side and back, just for my reference

Provided an image of my measurements for the garment. How would you recommend altering the garment to achieve the drape?

I have never ordered from Proper Cloth.
Do they provide feedback and advice on improving fit for their products? This is the essential problem with online custom clothing. Simple dimensions like back rise and thigh diameter don’t communicate the shape of the seat, for example. I also don’t have enough experience to give you accurate feedback on how to modify these measurements. I’d say to increase the thigh but I don’t know exactly how much. The back rise might need changing but again I don’t know their system.

If Proper Cloth can’t/won’t help you, try taking the trousers to a good alterations tailor in your area for advice.

Not sure if you're still following this thread @dilldawg14 but this is a useful thread in terms of how your trousers might be altered and how the pattern can be changed. Note Despos' commentary on how the alteration on a finished pair of trousers is different from how the pattern would be changed for a new pair of trousers. Again, this thread underscores the point that linear and circumferential measurements don't capture the complexity of curves in a pattern.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
