Hi all,

I am looking to buy a suit this week and was doing some research on the internet and came upon this website. Seems like people here are serious about their style so seems like a good place to ask this question. I normally dress business casual for work, mostly Boss Red (slim), so I am looking for my first suit. I am 6ft and about 170lbs, 30 years old, waist is 32 with Boss Red. I tried on a Giorgio Armani suit at Saks 5th couple days ago and their 38R jacket fit me perfectly. Anyhow, my question is which are some top brands in the $1,500 ~ $2,000 range? Thanks!

Most on this site are not too high on Boss or Armani because of the construction quality for the price is not that great. However I think if you really like them and the way they fit on you, go for it. Just be sure that you try on some other things first. Polo, Corneliani, Hickey Freeman and Canali are a few other makers in that range which you might like. I'd also encourage you to try some suits below that price range as well, such as Brooks Brothers and, if you're in New York, Suit Supply. Maybe you'll decide against them, but at least you can make a more informed decision - try to forget about the price of each item while trying it on and judge whether you look and feel great in it. Then once you decide which ones you like the most, you can decide whether it's worth the money to go for the top of your list. Don't spend $1500-2000 just because that's what you can afford.

Thx for the post. By no means do I consider Boss in high regard. It's just my everyday stuff. From reading on G.Armani in this forum, I kind of get the gist that they're not worth the price. I am open to any brand, but you sure said it right, I shouldn't get a $1,500 suit just because I can. I'll try to be unbias and try to to look at how it fits me and other qualities.

In DC you've got plenty of options - I'd check out the Ralph Lauren and brooks stores in Gtown as well as streets, across the street from Ralph Lauren. Also the dept stores around the Columbia heights metro. If you don't have a nice pair of shoes to go along with your suit, do not neglect that. Better to spend 800 on a suit and 500 on shoes than 1500 on a suit and 100 on shoes. Sky valet in gtown is the best spot for shoes

If you happen to find something that fits you perfectly, I'd suggest you purchase it. Perfectly fitting suits are a dime a dozen.

Here is my dime. Find me a dozen perfectly fitting suits.

Haha. I was thinking the same thing.

For that price range you could find consigned Oxxford, Brioni, Isaia ... in short, you can get some excellent designers.

Sierra Trading Post has a bunch of Isaia suits on there for $1500 right now.

If you pay retail you're probably looking at some of the Paul Smith line, some Zegna, Polo Black Label (I think) ...

I "settled" with a Ralph Lauren Black Label (Black) Suit. The no belt loop pants was a bit awkward at first but I am liking it now.
