Help! My bespoke suit is too baggy :(

He is. He's actually one of the few US alternatives to far better than a lot of Savile Row bespoke.

Hi guys, I met with the tailor already..... she put a lot of pins and showed me how everything will look like after the alteration... hopefully the whole thing can be rescued!!

What colours would you suggest for the tie?

And what about the pocket square? I already have a white one, but if you have better suggestions, please let me know .

Some people seem to think that I sent the measurements online..... once again, I didn't (I would never do it). The tailor himself (Hong Kong based) took the measurements while he was in Toronto. He comes here regularly.... he's partnered up with the Toronto suit company.

To Levoosh: the local tailor that'll do the alteration is called Fit Right Studio

Guys I wish I could get the Monogram BR suit as someone suggested...... but I already spent $900 for the jacket, pants, shirt, and vest, and another $700 for a Monogram suit seems such a waste .

I did my homework..... before went I to that company to get the suit made, I did a lot of research to make sure they're good, and in fact they have many positive reviews online (and I highly doubt they're paid reviews.)

The wedding is at the end of October, but I only have 3 weeks left before I have to leave Canada, since the wedding is overseas and I have to leave early to take care of some paperwork.......

I can only hope the local tailor lady will do a good job in rescuing the suit, or else I really wouldn't know what to do........ *sigh*. By the way she told me the whole alteration would've cost me around CAD$200, but since the suit company will cover the cost, I paid nothing. It'll take her about 2,5 weeks to finish the work...

Yes, I am.
I'm a little doubtful now, most women who sew know ladies work but don't know mens construction. They are very different sewing methods. I'm sure there are a few rare exceptions.

Lol. Anyway I don’t think this jacket could be altered to look half decent. Shoulder are too big. Which is nearly impossible to fix. At the same token outside SF not many people will realise what’s wrong with this suit. So you could just do basic alterations and wear it in your weeding.

Oh dear, here we go again.

There were no fittings...

Let me explain what happened: I live in Toronto, Canada. The suit company doesn't have a store front....they conduct events in which people come to get their measurements taken, and they choose the suit colour, material, style, etc. I came to one of their events at the beginning of July

They are partnered up with a Hong Kong based tailor, who was at the event (he took my measurements). Then the tailor went back to Hong Kong to work on the suit.

You'll probably find that no one went back to HK. They more than likely just faxed or emailed your measurements and details to some Mainland Chinese sweat shop.

Then, I think the tailor must've come back from Hong Kong a few days ago, to bring back the suits for the clients. I got the suit in the mail today, and I saw that it was shipped from Toronto, so I guess they packaged it here after arriving from Hong Kong........

So yeah no fittings at all...if any, today is what I would call the fitting, because today is the first time I've worn the finished suit.....

You met them in a hotel bedroom and they're only contactable via a free Hotmail, MSN, QQ, Foxmail or 163 email address?

The suits are actually shipped in bulk from China, then they're mailed from some place in Toronto. It's much cheaper that way. AFAIK no "tailors" are flying between Canada and HK.

BTW there's a lot of Chinese in Toronto.

If you're leaving in 3 weeks, and the suit will be ready in 2.5 weeks, you're cutting it close.
People spend all sorts of money on weddings.
I don't know your financial status, but this buying another $500 suit isn't going to kill you.
Why not go into one of those "mysuit" stores, and bring a bunch of pictures, and get a 2nd suit?
Just as a backup. Consider it insurance. If she screws this up, you're **** out of luck.

If you need a shortcut for 2 months, I'd find some "tailored fit" suits off the rack, like Banana Republic.
You'll spend $700 and get a fit a million times closer to the fashion suits your are aiming for.

I tend to agree with this. An off-the-rack suit with the'slim fit' style you desire and some minor tailoring will likely fit much better than that MTM suit you ordered. I just don't see a good outcome for that suit. Good luck to you, and congrats on your upcoming nuptials! -Eric

I hate to say this, but the OP also needs to develop more realistic expectations for his body type. He's not built at all like the examples he posted, and if he thinks any tailor is going to get him there, he's in for more disappointment. A good tailor can work small miracles, but he can't beat the laws of physics.

Not in a bedroom......but a meeting room, probably around 8 metres x 8 metres. The suit company owners are a bunch of really tall caucasians (almost 200 cm / 6'7") wearing surprisingly really good suits, especially the guy who's been taking care of my account. The HK based tailor though, is in fact not Chinese.

No they're not contactable via Hotmail or any of those free email services...they have their own domain name. Like I said before, they're very professional.....even the packaging in which my suit came, looks really high class, custom made for their company, with their own logo, care instructions, etc. Even the free alteration voucher that he emailed me looks very professional. These guys have been professional, friendly, and helpful so far.........

Up till this point, the suit is the only thing that I'm not happy with.......which is bad, I know, I know.....because all of the other things don't matter if the final product (which we pay for) is not good =/

I still have a buffer.......my plan B is if she screwed it up, I'd probably get another one in the country where I'll be getting married. From the time that I land till the wedding, I have about 38 days, which I think, hopefully, is enough time!

Yes but she is aware of my departure date, and she told me that she should have it ready 2 to 3 days before, or possibly even earlier than that =).

Yes I told her about the exact departure date, and she told me the would make my suit a priority and have it ready 2 to 3 days before, or even earlier =)

I did go to Banana Republic today though....and I saw some nice Monogram suits, but I didn't really like any of the colours =/

Haha....yes I know I'm not that built....but I'm working on it! I recently lost 13 kilograms (I think around 30 lbs), so that's quite an achievement right?!

While in my current form I may never look like those guys in the examples, I think that had the tailor done a better job, my suit would've been a lot better though...!
