My wife and I are heading to London to take care of some family matters and are using airline miles. That allows us one additional stopover. The trip is late Oct and early Nov. That time of year what would you recommend as another city to add and why? (major airport is all thats required). We like to walk, eat, shop, museums, art, antiques. We have been to France and Italy a number of times and could easily go back. We were thinking Paris or Rome but were wondering about other options to consider. Maybe something new. Suggestions?

I was just in prague a few months ago, it was an AWESOME city, especially for walking. Lots of interesting marionettes and interesting shops. Food was ok....fried mozerella sandwhich and street polish dogs were great. Beer was AWESOME though and very very cheap.

I was there during the music festival, which was just great. No idea how it is in Oct.

I think you would like it. A good choice for a short stop, with lots of shopping, museums and eateries all concentrated in the city center around Stephansdom.

How about something Southern like Palermo or Lisbon? May be warmer.

Then again, it's only October or November. Shouldn't be that cold in most of Europe...no reason to limit yourself.

You know, I have traveled a lot, but I know for a fact that you've traveled much more than me. I also know that you have some taste... so when you say that you like Prague, I'm still baffled. I could totally do without it, and the rest of the country as well. I just don't get it. I am so bewildered by that city's fame as a destination that I'm tempted to go back yet again just to see if I'm missing something. To me it's like the other Venice.

Leaving aside the obvious like Paris, Rome etc I'd recommend Valencia, Bologna, Naples, Nice among many, many others. Agree about Prague, tourist trap dump.

Of those I'd say Bologna. Also maybe Genoa. Great food in both cities, just beautiful, not totally overrun.
