For the retail price of those, you can get the 3-eyelet derby London shoe from Vass, hand-made shoes of supreme quality.

Shoes like what you describe are out there, just keep looking. Shoes like that can only be glued together or blake stitched though, goodyear welting by its nature requires bigger soles than the last.

I used to be like you and only liked the look of Prada's, but the sole border grows on you

I have to say I actually agree with this, I'm not a big fan of the larger sole like that. There are plenty of good shoes that don't have that though, how about some Gaziano & Girling:

Swear London make similarly long/pointy shoes at a low price point ($100-$200). Quality isn't all that, but then again Dior shoes aren't that great quality either - especially for the price.

If you want cheap Dior, wait for a year or so and they'll eventually show up in the sales or on eBay.

Good call. Though I don't share the OP's opinion, I respect it. This G&G shoe should satisfy that opinion. The problem is that it's significantly more than the Diors, isn't it? It does, however, show that there are shoes out there that are Goodyear welted and with a lower sole profile.

It is quite a bit more, but then again the Diors are far from cheap, and the G&Gs are probably much better value (and, imo, they look much better).

How are Vass not hand-made? That's exactly what all Vass shoes are. There's a whole book about their process and others' shoe hand-crafting process.

From JCusey's Guide to Shoes.

Vass -- Vass gets a lot of discussion on the forums, mostly, I think, because Gabor Halmos and Andrew Harris, the faces of Vass in the United States, participate here. That attention is well-deserved. Vass shoes are handmade products made to extremely high standards, and they are works of art. They are among the finest RTW footwear that you can find anywhere, at any price. Their traditional Hungarian lasts are distinctive but not for everybody. Recently, though, they have branched into sleeker last shapes such as the P2 and especially the F and the U, both of the latter developed for the Roberto Ugolini RTW shoes sold in Japan and made by Vass. In case it's not obvious from the preceding, I think the world of Vass shoes and am conflicted about the possibilities of Gabor and Andrew having success in establishing the brand here in the United States only because I fear that it will mean increased prices. For a more extended discussion of Vass shoes, see my post here.

To add, Dior shoes are most likely made by StefanoBi, I've seen some absymal lack of attention to quality and construction. Linen lining in winter boots for $900, Rubber soles on $1200 boots, No Goodyear-Welting on most, if not all, on Dior shoes.
