Help me find a Black Cap-Toe!

looking for some guidance as i'm about to purchase my first ever black captoes! I'm definitely willing to buy online, just not pre-loved as I kinda need them in around two weeks for a function....don't shoot me for not wearing patent with black tie!

Anyhow, I'm deciding between C&J Audley, Church's Consul (on the 73 and 173 last) and the Church's Goodrich (on the 108 last)

I'm going for whichever looks the best and most versatile.

Are there any positives to having a half-linen/half-leather lined shoe? I've never had a linen lined shoe outside of sneakers, and I know full leather is the best but, why is linen/leather so bad?

ALSO, does anybody have any pictures of these shoes being worn? preferably if you're in the sz10-11 range, US size. I know the 337 last is quite elegant, just wanted to see how the 173 looks. Unfortunately I don't think I can try them all on, so if anybody happens to have the Consul/Balmoral AND a 337 last shoe, if you could *please* post a comparison pic, that'd be awesome!

The 'looks the best' is a matter of taste, your pick there. If you have any of those brands and know how the lasts fit you, I would go off that.

As for half canvas or half linen linings, the idea is that they're a little cooler to wear. Absolutely nothing wrong with them. The only issue is that they'll wear out faster then the leather ones will, but that will still take a good many years.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
