Help me choose a (relatively cheap) watch

So I have an overstock.com gift card and need help deciding on a watch. Purpose is for everyday wear and looking to fit a smaller wrist.

What do you guys think of these?

All Nice watches. I'll go with Hamilton Khaki, black dial. For that money, you can also pick up a mechanical watch in new old stock condition from brands such as Ernest Borel and Titoni.

Look for a watch with a sapphire crystal - the crystal is the glass on the face of the watch. Mineral crystals will scratch more easily while sapphire is much more durable.

Also, make sure the bracelet on the watch has solid links. Many cheaper watches will have hollow links that are disguised as solid. Unfortunately, you won't be able to tell without examining the watch in person or asking the manufacturer. You could always just go for a leather strap and avoid this problem entirely.

It is entirely possible to get these features in a relatively inexpensive quartz watch. You'll just have to check around a little bit.

I refuse to vote for any of those.

For the same Overstock price, the Seiko Black Monster is a no-brainer.

At your price point, I think you can't go wrong with a Hamilton Khaki in the color of your choice.

If your budget unexpectedly increases, check out the Stowa Antea Kleine Sekunde. Several of us on the Forum wear it. It's perfect for smaller wrists and a terrific watch. All of the Stowa watches are great.

It would fit your wrist alright. This question has actually been asked a few times in the thread I linked to; I'd recommend you to go through it.

Also, the OP has an Overstock gift card. They don't stock E.Borel, Titoni or Stowa.

Not a big fan of that look--not sure what kind of watch it's trying to be.

I think you can't go wrong with either the Seiko or the Hamiltons.

The problem with the ESQ is the Paneri styling style can get dated quickly.
The Seiko is more dressier style while the Hamilton has a casual design.
I would pick the Hamiton for casual wear.

I do own the monster so I have a few comments:

1. Too bulky to wear under a dress shirt
2. A pure tool watch so you can't wear it in more formal occasions
3. 1 + 2 = Not a good all rounder

For watches under $300, ebay is your best friend. Ernest borel used to make their own movements and if you check ebay occasionally, you can find NOS or mint ernest borel watches wither these movements or ETA 2824s under $200. Another place for cheap mechanical watches is poor man's watch forum Sales Corner. +1. I'll say just go for the Hamilton for now. It's a solid watch. When your financial circumstance improves a bit, you will not be entirely at a loss when you upgrade.

Thanks for the great advice everyone - I think I'm going to go with the Hamilton.

I hope becoming less "ignorant" about watches doesn't cause my wallet too much pain...

you should also check out the Stuhrlings on Overstock. they have a pretty wide selection of watches that fit into your price range, and although not as well known as other brands, they do look pretty nice. some people have complained about quality issues, but the two I picked up have had no problems so far.

btw, I think there might be a 10% off coupon for Overstock floating online. hope this helps!
