Budget is less than $400. Must have rubber soles of course. So my initial choice of Alden Indy's are out And it cant be too casual b/c I want to wear them to work regularly. Dress code at work is business casual.

I dont think these would be appropriate for work though...

#3:
Gucci
Gucci Boots
Yes they are Gucci...but I'm really digging these.

You missed the Brooks Bros/Peal/Crockett & Jones Connistons/Peal Timberlands.

Indy boots should NOT be worn by anyone unless they are:

1. On a quest for the Holy Grail
2. Feet touch dirt (and by Dirt I mean unpaved roads).

Indy boots are disgusting, for the record.

What type of winter weather do you generally experience? It there's lots of snow, forget the Indy boot.

I live in MI. Getting 12+ inches of snow is not uncommon.

I love C+J conistons, but unless you can get them used they are outside your price range, although if you are considering Ultimate Indys I believe the price is comparable. I recently went through the process of choosing a boot and ended up with the AE Bayfield. Others here may scoff but they are much nicer and sleeker than even I expected. Of course the Chromexcel leather is great and they have a commando sole which fits your criteria. In addition they can currently be had at endless.com for ~$260 so they are significantly cheaper than the other boots being mentioned here and IMO are comparable in terms of qualitly of leather, and even styling. I will post a few pics below of my Bayfields.

The Kudu is massively Rambo/commando.
