Since I can't find any local talent to do it, I've decided to give MyTailor.com a shot at making me a new sport coat. In addition to having Mr. Kenny measure me, I'm going to ask him to take measurements from my two favorite sport coats, both from the Brethren Brooks.

What would you suggest I ask Mr. Kenny to change about the measurements he takes from these jackets? For instance, by how much should the button stance be changed, and in which direction? What could be improved regarding each jacket's balance? How's the length of each one, etc?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, but PLEASE be sure to make clear which jacket you're referring to in all your observations. Thanks!

I'm not sure what you're after stylistically, but I'd ask for the following:

1. Higher armholes.
2. Shorter length (just a little).
3. More open quarters.
4. Also, the vent is slightly open on the second jacket, but it's not that big of a deal.

They look good overall.

Are you aware you are leaning or is the camera at an angle? Maybe the vents are open because of the way you are standing.

I like the slightly shorter length of the line SC

I second the suggestion for higher arm holes

Thanks for weighing in, acecow. I love the way your jackets fit you. That's the look I'm going for.

If you look at the floor, you can see that the camera is tilted slightly. That said, I tend to tilt a little, too.

The vents are open, I believe, because I asked my alterations tailor to scoop in too aggressively at the small of my back. In addition, I happen to have World Class pant melons.

Bump.

Come on, gents. I'm meeting with Mr. Kenny this weekend. I could use as many opinions on this as possible.

You don't need many more opinions, luckily - these fit as well as RTW can. Bring the navy blazer with you so that it can be measured as well as you, and ask what they can do to reduce the extra fabric behind the shoulders.

Bring a picture of how acecow's coats fit too

I like how these look. I'd say higher arm holes and you're good to go. Maybe bring the length up the bit, but to be honest before I read someone saying something that it did not spring to mind.

I like your jeans, too.

Way ahead of you on that front, bro. I've got a stack of WAYWRN photos to show Mr. Kenny this weekend, and several of acecow's images are right on top.

Thanks for your thoughts, SG. I'm really surprised, though, that hardly anyone seems concerned about button stance. Both of these jackets have been shortened a bit, and I expected that to throw off the proportions enough that the button stance would need adjusting. Maybe not, though.

Thanks. They're Levi's 505s. Proof that ya just can't improve on a classic.

I honestly don't think my jackets fit any better than yours do. You have a very solid base for MTM with your jackets, I wouldn't really change much. FWIW, I saved this photo from this week's WAYWRN as an inspiration:

You're too kind, ace. Your jackets hug your frame much more closely than mine, and yours also have better cutaway fronts, or open quarters, than mine do. Still, I thank you for the compliment.

Don't use mytailor if you want to avoid another disaster. You are in DC right? Go and have a fitting with Chan and get yourself a bespoke jacket, might be little more money but it will be a much better option. The main issue I see with your jackets is how the collar fits, your collars don't hug your neck and your lapels don't seem to sit flat on your chest, I don't think MTM will fix this issue.

+1000

Stop fooling with the MTM and all that experimenting. Just bite the bullet and go with the tried and true......will save you lots of frustration and money and you will definitely be getting that all too important SF-Approved look!
