i would return the tie personally. i dont see it going with anything (at least anything outfitwise that you may want to delve into to experiment : advanced style 101/sf/sartorialist)

however i have been known to buy and keep ties just on their own merit, because i like the pattern. i never used it though.

Seriously, my friend, it's time to get a suit. For one thing, it sounds as if you're going to be attending more and more functions at which suits are appropriate. For another, a suit ensemble is much easier to assemble and coordinate than a jacket/tie combo.

Do it, man. Take the plunge.
