Hello all,
Just purchased these charcoal dress pants and they're currently being tailored up. I thought I'd pair it with my navy gold buttoned blazer, but after reading the importance of contrast, it ain't gunna work! The only thing I can think of is dress shirts like white, gray/white stripes, pink, light blue, however I read that charcoal has a tendency to look like your missing the jacket. Sheesh!
What can I wear with these that would look good for work related functions ?
Thanks so much with any advise you can give me.

If your photo is an accurate representation of that shade, it should go with a navy sport coat, white or light blue shirt, mid-brown derbies or black tassel loafers, and a dark tie if you want to wear a tie.

Thank you for your reply gents!!!
After looking at it again, the photo is not accurate, the camera lightened it up, it's actually much darker. The store said no work had been done so I was able to exchange them for mid gray!!!!!! The mid gray actually looks closer to the image above. Now I'll feel comfortable pairing them with my navy blazer. Further, I was reading so much "security guard" stuff, I had the tailor give them a modern tapered look with cuffs. Thanks again.

I don't get too hung up on contrast demands on the Internet. Mid-contrast pairings can work just fine. Gives opportunity to be a bit more punchy with shirt and tie options.

I suppose that example is just riding the line, but often, when I see people in charcoal trousers and navy jackets, it looks like they're wearing a poorly mismatched suit because you do a double-take -- is that a suit, or a sport coat? Contrast makes the two pieces distinct and allows the outfit to more clearly communicate that it's a sport coat ensemble.

It is a midnight blue blazer with chocolate flannel trousers. Certainly on the line a bit but a good outfit none the less. Contrast more pronounced in real life.

Full outfit here.
