I found these at the thrift the other day. They were so odd looking and cheap that I took a chance. I can't figure out the maker though, as most of the lettering has been worn off. I thought maybe Johnston and Murphy based on the few letters I could see, but I can't find anything like them.
The leather is very soft feeling, like calfskin or deerskin I've handled before. On the left, in small lettering on the bottom I can make out a J possibly followed by an o, and below that a word beginning with s. On the right I can make out a large S and an hy, possibly phy. Inside the shoe you can see the words "VAMP AND SOCK LININGS MAN MADE MATERIALS". They are marked B 1839, and 716 10-1/2 D 750 on the sides. The bottom of the sole is marked 10M with a 1/2 above it. It has a split heel with visible brass nails.
