A friend of mine is looking for an evening slipper type of shoe that I am not familiar with, and I told him that I would ask "the powers that be" (aka, you guys) about them. Any help would be appreciated, here's how he described them in an email:

"They're similar to a velvet evening slipper from Trickers but the upper, as opposed to velvet with a jaguar picked out in gold thread, is made entirely out of needlepoint, almost like a dhurry pillow, if you get my drift. "

Try Stubbs & Wooten. I believe their shop is in Palm Beach. They do a lot of velvet slippers - but other stuff as well.

Do you mean this type of thing?

They are called Kilim slippers. Those above are from Pickett, and also available at Shipton & Heneage, and even direct from Turkey.
