Help finding a similar tweed sports coat?

Hi guys,

I was recently browsing some videos on youtube and came across one for Ralph Lauren's new Big Pony line of fragrances, which are great by the way. But what struck me, is that a number of the guys in there seem to be wearing exactly the type of tweed (unsure of the fabric) sports coat I have been looking for. If anyone could point me in the direction of where I could find a similar coat it would be muchly appreciated.

Here is the link to the video, classic Polo world:
Regards,
Porter.

I have checked the Ralph Lauren site and they aren't for sale this season, I am asking for another good place to buy one with a similar cut...

I didn't see a tweed coat in that video. Do you mean the brown blazers with Prince of Wales check?

If you're looking for an actual tweed coat, RL still has brown tweed coats in a herringbone pattern. It's a pretty soft tweed, so it hangs well. If you have an RL flagship store near you, they'll most likely also carry it.

Yeah I think it is the brown blazers with the Prince of Wales check. I am talking about the ones where the two guys with the go-to-hell pants are walking together towards the start of the video. I was unsure of the fabric and/or what to call it. If you could point me in the direction of anywhere that sells these or of the exact type of fabric so that I could get one made it would be muchly appreciated. Thanks again.

The times in the video where you can see it are: 1:07, 1:34-35.

Thankyou very much VictorJB. I have emailed him. I have had the idea of purchasing this type of jacket ever since I found an old pair of shorts that were of a similar material but have never had a picture or anything to go by.

Under the collar I saw a madras plaid on one of them. That should make identifying the jacket easier. I thought maybe Rugby, and hit the site, but no such luck.

Also, those are two different SCs. One has a throat latch on the lapel. The lapels are also pretty big. They may be F/W 2010 SCs that are not up on the site yet.

I agree though, I love them both. Of course, RL is my favorite designer.

Good luck!

Dear Porter,
Thanks for pointing to the RL video, quite entertaining. I do agree the jackets you are referring to looks stunning indeed: Wide lapels and a bold PoW check pattern. Judging from 0:56 they are almost made in a British cut, strong shoulders, nipped waist, of decent length and with some nice skirt flare. Perhaps not a tweed, but it looks heavy enough to me.

Unfortunately I am no RL expert and can give you no advice on where to find that exact jacket. You can always keep your eyes open for something similar, I guess. Wide lapels and a more sculptured cut is slowly getting back in fashion, so your chances not that bad. I know Corneliani had a quite nice PoW check suit this spring, for instance. Best of luck in your quest!

Yours,
Mr Tweed

It is a coat that was released as a suit from this spring collection. There were two similar POW patterns for sale. They were around $1400. I though of getting one but forgot about it at the moment, then i saw this video also a few days ago and am trying to find the suit again. My best guess is to see if the Ralph Lauren Stores have any left. heres a pic:
The best fragrance is the Green BTW.

Cheers guys, atleast I know what to look for and if that fails I know what to tell my tailor. Yes, the green is by far the best IMO anyway, I purchased the big bottle yesterday. Just out of curiosity where did you find the screenshot from the film?

Please be advised that PRL is a corporation grossing over US$5 billion per year.

.com listings are only a very, very small fraction of available merchandise. Check RL stores. The larger ones should have swatches and a special order and/or made-to-measure service.

The odd jackets you reference are Spring weight wool mixed with silk and/or flax in a brown and beige Glen Urquhart check and one houndstooth/dogtooth check. Orange-tie dude has a probably pink vertical accent stripe and mint horizontal stripe forming a thin windowpane - look closely. The herringbone jacket has a patch-madras under-collar. The appearance of the houndstooth at 1:45/6 is a bit more aristocratic than the glen checks.

For Fall you'd want a wool or cashmere flannel with darker accent stripes, if any - perhaps burgundy, hunter green, dark purple or blue. Polo has not used much real tweed in odd jackets this decade, it's usually tweed-look wool, alpaca or cashmere often Italian woven.

Such stuff is perennial with PRL.

They suckered you with narrow lapels now they're going to retrofit you with the 4.5" '77 models. he, he

Why were the chaps of "One Republic" not used as models?

Perchance of interest www.foxflannel.com

Thanks again for that mate, unfortunately our pickings for Ralph Lauren and other major brands here in South Australia are rather slim, even thinner when I am back home in our small town of about 15,000 people. So online stores are basically my best bet, or a tailor in our nearest capital city, Adelaide.
