I made the mistake of wearing a pair of swims with my suede shoes. The red liner rubber off on one shoe and the other just rubbed the suede pretty bad. Is there anything I can do to fix them?

Have you tried brushing them with a metal suede brush?

My shoe repair guy cleaned a pair of suede shoes, made look new again. Don't remember if he said he shampooed them or how he did it but the result was perfect.

Don't do it yourself if you're really concerned. Bring them to a competent cobbler. They will fix them up.

I've tried a suede brush and not much luck. What do you think about using the suede shampoo?

I've had similar problems with suede/nuebuck and have shampooed and brushed out the stain. The results were very poor imo. The suede ended up being very flat and dry looking and there was nothing I could do thereafter. Like cioni2k said better to bring them to an expert.

Why a metal brush?
Many shoe maker and cobbler say that ruin shoe in time.
Rubbing metal on suede sound very very bad.

Find a professional that you KNOW does good work.
Look until you find him.

Son, there are metal brushes made for suede that should probably not be used every day but they will not cause damage. Any shoe repair shop sells them. I believe they are copper or brass.

I ordered Saphir Omni stain remover, Renovateur suede spray, and a suede brush. Now I'm having second thoughts. Thanks for the info

You have niothing to lose. I am a little surprised that a wire suede brish has not removed it or is it dye that has stained them?

Personally I think stain removers are not going to be good. As suede is difficult to 'spot clean' thoroughly - the edges of the areas wet down by the cleaner tend to be hard to manage.

I would take these shoes in to a good shoe repair shop - the staining/texture damage is too extensive for an at home cleaning IMO.

Alternatively I would shampoo the whole shoe. But it can indeed change the texture of the suede somewhat as someone has mentioned above.

re: wire brushes - they are great for occasional use to 'bring up' the nap when it has been worn off. But not for everyday use - the softer bristle suede brush should be used everyday use.
