Hey folks -

I've been breaking in a pair of 7 for All Mankind The Standard Extra Long for a few weeks. I've never washed them. Right off the shelf these jeans had a beautiful fit, riding close in the hip area but not too tight.

Now they are just poofy and saggy around the hips. It seems like I've added two inches to the waist. The butt looks poofy and weird, and the thighs just hang down. This is not at all what I wanted.

So, how can I shrink these to original size? And how can I get them to stay that way? Thank you!

EDIT: Oh, they are 100% cotton. And I searched the forums for an answer without posting, but couldn't find anything answering my specific question.

All jeans will stretch out. To get them back into shape, toss them in the dryer after washing them. I turn mine inside out to help keep the fade.

^ yes, but there's nothing that can be done about that.

The short answer: you can't. The long answer: all jeans stretch, usually you just have to downsize, or there's an option to buy denim with lycra (usally labeled as "stretch"), which afaik doesn't stretch more than .5 size (in the worst case).

I've heard about washing in a hot wash, or soaking in a hot bathtub. Would any of these work for me? And would it last?

Sevens denim is like that, very stretchy. One the reasons I never bought another pair.

Why are you breaking your Seven in? Aren't they pre-washed/distressed? I didn't realize they started making dry denim.

Washing is temporary. Altering can be done, but is kind of a PITA. Those are your options.

Sounds like you went a bit big. As other posters mentioned, buy something with poly or lycra if you want it to retain its size. All of the Sevens I still have, have lycra or poly and fit great after 20+ wears.
