Help a bigger guy get ready for a Florida wedding reception

So I've got a wedding I need to attend in Florida in about two weeks. I HATE hot weather, but I love the people getting married. It's a bit over two weeks out and I probably should have handled this a while ago but I've been putting it off. The official attire is "cocktail" and the hosts are more formal so I had planned on wearing the one suit I own, a charcoal grey suit. It will work, but I'm sure I'll be hot and uncomfortable.

I need to completely overhaul my wardrobe anyway and just come to terms with the fact that I'm getting older and probably not ever going to be a skinny guy. I'm right at 6 feet, between 235-240, and carry most of my weight in my upper body. I'd like to get something for the wedding that I can also still re-purpose into other outfits. So any suggestions on where to start? My work does have a bit of flexibility to it; I can get away with anything from a suit to dark jeans and a nice sweater but I'd like to up my game overall. I only add that as context for where I might go after the wedding.

I'm not thrilled to break the bank, but I can spend a little money to get something that works.

You’re on a short timeline so tailoring will likely be tough. Depending where you’re located you may be able to find something in stock - I wouldn’t wait longer though. Even on a rush my alterations tailor is a week out. Is there a decent menswear store near you?

Something in a high twist wool would likely provide you some breathability while being versatile enough to wear to the office. Unlined if you can find it.

If you’re a bit more adventurous a linen or wool silk linen blend could be a nice option but will have less versatility in an office setting. Some ideas here to pull principles from. https://www.permanentstyle.com/summer-dressing

The other thing I’d add is finding a shirt that works with it if you truly run hot. There are some ideas and principles you can pull out of this blog. https://putthison.com/a-guide-to-summer-shirts/

Some great resources there. Thank you!

Would you consider seersucker? If you live in the south it's a great hot weather option, and they're widely available in menswear stores.
