Why do we still make our shoes with machines that have clearly clocked up many more years than our employees? Because nothing better has been invented since.

Inside our manufacture | Part II

    Show me your seam ...

... and I’ll tell you if you’re wearing a genuine Dinkelacker. The seam that connects the shaft, welt and inner sole is important for the shoe’s stability so it is directly “lock stitched” by hand. Dinkelacker is particularly proud of its hand-sewn braided welt, two leather bands woven between every stitch. A handcrafted luxury that very few shoemakers still offer.

In the past, sewn-welted shoes were reserved for aristocrats and Dinkelacker still treats its customers like royalty today.

    Seite45.jpg

Sewn welted or double-stitched: Two styles, one quality

Shoe experts distinguish between the sewn-welted and double-stitched methods of connecting the shaft and the sole. A slender, elegant heel base characterizes the models with sewn-welted base. Here, the front of the heel is pierced from the inside to the outside and nailed onto the shoe.

The double-stitched models are striking and sporty with a welt seam that runs around the shoe. Varieties include the braided welt with leather strips woven in or the woven welt with two strips of braided thread between every stitch of the welt and the double seams. Whatever the style, the ultimate wearing comfort and durability are always guaranteed.

Quality is our utmost priority, even in the smallest of details.

The sole deserves the highest respect as it is of fundamental importance to the shoe

The heels and soles of Dinkelacker men’s shoes are made from pit-tanned leather from the Rendenbach Tannery, an
exclusive supplier of high-quality, extremely durable sole leather. Th e well-kept secret of this tanning tradition lies in the time-consuming tanning process and their special treatment of the skins. Tanning requires experience, a good nose and an alert eye. “Tanned like a true master,” is what the tanners were heard saying when leathers of the highest quality emerged after one year in the tanning pits. The Rendenbach Tannery stamp on the soles of Dinkelacker’s men’s shoes is testimony to this extraordinary quality.

One of the most beautiful parts of our shoes is unfortunately rarely on show

The soles of Dinkelacker shoes are adorned with brass pins, nailed into the shoe sole and heel by a skilled craftsman. They not only look attractive, just like the brass nails on the triple-soled model, but also serve as effective protection from wear and tear.

The fine art of sole making is displayed in the RIO models: the unique triple sole with complex 6-nail pattern and brass pins can only be found in this combination at Dinkelacker. The heel and sole gently cushion impact during the natural heel-to-toe movement of the foot. A layer of cork also ensures soft cushioning and adjusts to the wearer’s foot shape.

Rubber soles are a good alternative to leather in adverse weather conditions or when softer walking comfort is required. Based on a design by Dinkelacker in Germany and made from genuine rubber, they are extremely resistant, flexible and durable.

Perfection down to the very last step

A feel for the materials, a steady hand and a concentrated eye are required of the cobbler when he cuts the extraneous leather from the front of the heel with a razor-sharp knife and “skives” it with a shard of glass. He goes over the edge of the sole again with a flat knife and the sole is finished with fine sandpaper before being dyed and polished with a wax dye. The finishing touch is added to the outsole and a high-quality wax cream is applied. A stamp on the sole distinguishes the shoe as a genuine Dinkelacker.

After the quality checks, every finished shoe is given a check number, which, after approval, is added to the inside of the shoe. With his signature, the master shoemaker vouches for the quality of his work.

Especially famous in Japan: Our Rio Plain Boxcalf. The typical brass tip is emphasized by not painting it over.

    UNIQUE FOR HEINRICH DINKELACKER

We have been producing iconic works of art in footwear that satisfy the highest of standards since 1879. Our shoes are still made by hand in our Budapest manufactory, adhering to the principles of slow fashion. With our icons on sale, we are creating space for new developments to be made. Models from past collections that can no longer be bought in stores are available. This is both the first time and, in terms of scale, the only time for an event like this.

Just purchase only or if you need assistance: Mr Lehmann is at your service.

@Heinrich Dinkelacker I've been waiting for this. :) I'm wondering about sizing. I have a 10.5 D / 10 E (one foot longer, one foot wider) US. Mid-low instep. Normal arch. Any idea of a UK size and last that would work well?

hello greenhouse, that's a very good question. Dinkelackers come in UK sizing, that means we are always on size smaller than the US version. 10,5 US is 9,5 UK. Our width is a usually a G width. In most cases that corresponds with an american C/D width.
Concerning your foot: A mid-low instep and a normal arch should work with a Luzern, Milano and Paris last. If you have wider feet I recommend Rio, Buda and London. For our gentlemen with even wider feet (E and EE) we habe the Genf H and the Janosh K last. If you are in doubt, just write or call me. You also find my contact data on our main page: (I'm the gentleman in the corner)
